Wrong But Funny Tuesday

Rather than write about today’s primaries. We thought we would share a funny photograph we found online. As Paul Ogden reported on President Trump’s publicity stunt at pretending to be a Christian. Trump proceeded to use tear gas, and flash bangs on protesters as he made his way to D.C.’s Saint John’s Episcopal Church also known as the “Church of the President’s”. He then went on to awkwardly try to hold a Bible in his hand.

He has been widely ridiculed for doing so by various clergy. We found this photo that shows what thoughts are actually going through Trump’s brain. Spoiler Alert: It’s anything but spirituality that he is thinking about.

Here’s an inside look into Donald Trump’s head:

Yes ladies and gentlemen the class and grace that is our Pussy Grabber in Chief!

Vermont Governor Phil Scott and Indy Republican Endorse Trump Primary Challenger Bill Weld

Governor Bill Weld Republican Challenger to President Trump

Hope you all had a good President’s Day Friends! IR heard over the weekend that Vermont Gov. Phil Scott (R), has endorsed Trump primary challenger former Massachusetts Governor and 2016 Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee Bill Weld for President ahead of Vermont’s GOP Presidential Primary.

Tal Axelrod over at The Hill reported the story on February 15th, 2020. Axelrod reported the following:

"I've met with him (Bill Weld) before. I think a lot of him and his platform, so I would be supporting him," Scott said of Weld, a long-shot Republican presidential candidate, at a press conference Saturday.

The endorsement comes less than three weeks before the March 3 primary in Vermont, where 16 pledged delegates will be at stake.

Scott, a vocal moderate who has expressed concerns with Trump's rhetoric and conduct in office, signaled last year that he could endorse someone other than Trump.

Governor Scott’s endorsement did not go unnoticed by Governor Weld. Weld had this message for Scott on Twitter:

We earlier endorsed former Congressman Joe Walsh for President. We are proud of the effort that Congressman Walsh put forward and we are sad that he dropped out after Iowa. That being said yes we disagree with Weld on abortion. But on most of the important issues Weld is right on target. He is far better a choice than Trump or any other socialist democrat running for president. Weld is a long shot, but he is a shot worth taking. History will think highly of Weld, Bill Kristol, Charlie Sykes, Joe Walsh, Paul Ogden, Gary Welsh, Charlie White and hopefully the Indy Republican posse will get some recognition as well. We encourage all our readers to donate to, support and vote for Bill Weld for President. Here’s his website for more information: https://weld2020.org/

Also here’s a little something to show you what Weld is all about:

Vote for a Real Republican! Vote for Bill Weld and reject the false gospel of Trumpism!

The Suicide of Jeffrey Epstein w/update

Recently we had promised to write more about former Bill Clinton and Donald Trump’s BFF Sex Trafficer and Financier Jeffrey Epstein. Now it appears that the 66 year old died last night in a Manhattan jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Although we find the timing very suspicious regarding Epstein’s suicide at this point INDY REPUBLICAN doesn’t have enough information to form an opinion one way or another as to how Epstein died. The late great Gary Welsh wrote extensively about Epstein and his ties to the Clinton’s and Epstein’s former attorney now Trump apologist Alan Dershowitz. Epstein had been on suicide watch since July 23rd after a previously unsuccessful suicide attempt about three weeks ago. The conspiracy theory wheels are all going into overdrive now. Oh what IR and the gang wouldn’t give to get Gary Welsh’s take on this. Epstein as we have said before had strong ties to both President’s Clinton and Trump. Some of our Pro-Trump friends are already trying to make hay out of Epstein’s suicide as way to emphasize the corruption of the Clinton’s.

INDY REPUBLICAN has nothing but loathing and contempt for Bill and Hillary Clinton. Just as we do for Donald Trump. A word of warning though to our Trump supporting friends: Do you really want to go down this road? Already many  democrats, and media personalities are citing Epstein’s death as being tied to President Trump and Vladimir Putin. See the following tweets as an example:

Scarborough appears to be making a not so subtle dig at Alan Dershowitz when he says a “Harvard professor or two”. Regardless of how Epstein died what he did to lead to his indictment must be investigated. Hopefully we will learn more over time. Former Redstate Managing Editor and Mediate writer Caleb Howe has an in depth look at Joe Scarborough’s Trump like conspiracy rambling.

UPDATE: According to NBC News Epstein was not on suicide watch at the time of his death. Law professor Jonathan Turley has more information on his blog about Epstein’s death. Politico also has an article saying that members of Congress are demanding answers in Epstein’s death. Another interesting tidbit was yesterday court documents revealed accusations against former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) and former U.S.Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell in connection with Epstein’s sex trafficking. This situation just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

Narcissism Thy Name Is Donald Trump

Before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming. We just thought we would share perhaps the most insane thing we have seen to date on President Trumps twitter feed. The President starts out fine by praising America. But he then ruins it by thanking himself for America’s greatness.

All of us here called President Obama the “Narcissist In Chief” with justification when he was the in office. We had hoped whoever followed him wouldn’t also deserve that title. But Donald Trump as he is prone to do has decided to be Barrack Obama on Steroids. We conservatives and republicans need to realize that if something is bad coming from Obama or Hillary having Trump do it does not make it any better. Those of us like Paul Ogden, George Will, Joshua Claybourn, Charlie Sykes, Joe Wilson, and Bill Kristol who have stayed true to our conservative principles in the face of Trumpism. We must continue to hold our ground. History will thank us for it. Unless we want our national two party system to keep going down the path of being a “Unibrow Party” system of socialist authoritarianism. We must and will resist the growing pressure to be mindless drones working for a matrix of fat cat political hacks and empty talking heads. For the sake of our brothers gone before us like the late, great Gary Welsh. Like Barry Goldwater, Bill Buckley and Ronald Reagan. Let us seek to bind up the nations wounds. We shall fight for the ideals of the founders. Praise be to God! AMEN!

GOP Strategist Mike Murphy Explains Why Trump Is Beyond Saving

Just found this snippet of an interview that Hollywood Producer, Screenwriter and longtime GOP strategist Mike Murphy did with Bill Kristol back in 2017. The whole interview is well worth watching in its own right on YouTube. Also we recommend Murphy’s weekly “Hacks On Tap” podcast where he discusses politics with Democratic Strategist David Axelrod. Enjoy the clip:

The Resurgent’s Erick Erickson’s Political Schizophrenia

As Never Trump conservative republicans INDY REPUBLICAN was somewhat comforted by the stand made by Erick Erickson against the RINO Donald Trump’s 2016 Presidential Campaign. And like our brother-in-arms fellow gadfly Republican Paul Ogden. We share Paul’s distaste at the transformation of Erickson’s former well regarded website Redstate from being a truly conservative website to being another Trumpist rag. Just like the transformation of the late Andrew Brietbart’s site Brietbart News into a propaganda mill of the new Trumpservative GOP establishment.

Before we delve any further into our critique of Erickson. In the interest of fairness Erickson did hire and has retained several former Redstate writers who were forced out last year during that sites purging of Trump skeptics like the incomparable Susan Wright. That being said it has been a source of great frustration for all of us that earlier this year, in an act of ultimate political cowardice and sycophancy Erickson did a complete turn around and endorsed the Trump ticket for 2020.

Erickson said that the Trump-Pence ticket had “earned his vote” and that despite Trumps many flaws of which Erickson has continued to write about that Trump is better for religion than the anti-religious secular democrats. Erickson being a seminary student should no better. Although all of us at IR are devoted Christians and we cannot stand the Democratic Party’s hostility towards people of faith. The mad dash towards joining in with the Fellowship of the Pharisees, that so many of our brothers and sisters have done and who defend everything Trump does, have done more damage to the body of Christ than most anti religious bigots ever could. Martin Luther who started the Protestant Reformation said he would rather hear the honest shouts of an angry atheist than insincere flattery from his followers. Or as Christ himself said in Matthew 15:8: “"'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

Reports that Erickson decided to if half heartedly give Trump his endorsement suggest that he did so after being lobbied to do so by President Trump. Apparently dear Erick would rather have praise from temporal rulers rather than the God that he claims to serve and worship.

Some have suggested that we are being to hard on Erick. That he has legitimately changed his mind on Trump. Well if it were not for today’s shenanigans that Erickson pulled by saying he endorses Congressman Justin Amash R-MI and Donald Trump for re-election in 2020, there might have been some argument if albeit a weak one that Erickson had changed his mind on Trump. Here is his statement on Twitter:

An endorsement of both campaigns and the donating of money to them is not reconcilable with reality. Congressman Amash has been on Trump’s enemy’s list for several years now. And even more so since Amash an attorney read the Mueller report and concluded after reading it that President Trump should be impeached. Whether knowingly or not by saying that “We need people like Amash in the House of Representatives who are willing to stand up for smaller government and principle.” Than either Erickson is saying that Amash’s argument for the impeachment of Trump is a principled one. In which case Erickson approves of it and makes his support of Trump suspect. Or he doesn’t support impeaching Trump in which case it is impossible for Erickson to honestly back Amash for re-election. After all as any candid observer must admit Amash’s stand is only harming Trump. Especially in Amash’s crucial must win home state of Michigan. So if he wants Trump re-elected in 2020 wouldn’t the wise move be to attack Amash? Or is Erick just trying to cover his ever widening ass in case Trump tanks Bigly next year?

Fortunately not everyone at Erickson’s The Resurgent is a useless hack like him. Susan Wright formerly of Redstate, now a writer for The Resurgent and on her blog Susan Wright On the Right has continually backed Amash and opposed Trump. You can read some of her articles and other fine conservatives and libertarians articles on Amash here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

As for Susan Wright and the other Pro-Amash voices at The Resurgent Bravo! A word of warning though. Since Erick Erickson has already sold out his principles there is no guarantee that he won’t stab Wright and other anti trump writers and activists in the back as well if his master Donald Trump tells him to. Especially in light of this tweet sent out by Donald Trump, Jr (no doubt on his fathers orders) to Amash this morning bragging about how Amash is now down by 16 points in the most recent primary poll. The ever clever Congressman Amash has this to say to Donnie, Jr:

President Trump To Meet with Whales and Dolphins

This edition of Thursday Funnies is brought to us once again by President Trump. As he is prone to doing the Twitterer-In-Chief forgot to spell check before he tweeted out a message on international diplomacy.

In bragging about his frequent visits with foreign dignitaries. The President said that he has met with the Queen of England and the Prince of Whales recently. Of course he should have said Prince of Wales. That is unless the president did indeed meet with an undersea monarch and just decided to reveal that aquatic life has adopted a feudal system of governance.

To break down for us in his own inimitable way here is Bill Kristol:

This is one instance in which we wish that President Trump had actually made some earth shattering discovery about other intelligent life on this planet. But alas we have to accept that Trump is just blowing off his mouth again.

Charlie Sykes And George Will Explain Why Conservatives Must Oppose Trumpism

A little while ago George Will and Charlie Sykes we’re interviewed by Chuck Todd on MSNBC. Messrs Sykes and Will both gave their reasons as to why conservatives MUST oppose Trumpism and the GOP AKA Gutless On Principle Party as David Leach has called them. We find the case as laid out by both men to be compelling. We also are impressed with George Will’s comparing much of the modern GOP as being on a similar level as the Communist Party USA of the 1930’s. We have discussed previously on this blog the Sovietization and growth of Communism in the Republican Party.

About the only difference between us and Will and Sykes is that we all here are republicans, and we will stay republicans until the last Trumpist saboteur is either drummed of the GOP, repents and embraces the limited government conservatism of Goldwater, Reagan and Buckley, or gives up. So to our detractors in the GOP. We are just getting started. We were here before many sellouts were gyrations in their dad’s pants, and we will be here in the GOP long after many of them have gone onto that “MAGA Palace in the Sky” as GOP Strategist and Hollywood Producer/Screenwriter Mike Murphy would say.

Below for your viewing pleasure George Will and Charlie Sykes going after Donald Trump:

Thursday Funnies

In another Thursday Funnies. There has been talk of having Robert Mullers report released. Of course there are some who don’t want the report released. We found the following excuse that could be offered to keep the report from being released:

County GOP in Missouri Engages In Trump Cult Worship

Christian County Defiles Christianity, Abe Lincoln & the Republican Party
What a way to start off a work week. In another sign of The SATANIC takeover of much of our Grand Old Party. Word has come to us that the Christian County Republican Party has chosen to go down the blasphemous road and has changed their fundraising dinners to the Lincoln/Trump Day Dinner. Instead of keeping the more honorable century old tradition of Lincoln Day Dinners. Named in honor of one of our greatest presidents and the first man to win the presidency on the GOP ticket. After all Lincoln only helped to end slavery and restore the United States. That’s nothing compared to President Trump surviving his own personal Vietnam of avoiding STD’s! This action by the Christian (And we use that word loosely) County GOP as bad as it is, is but one of two reprehensible actions taken by these big government, socialist creeeps masquerading as conservatives. The Hill reported today that a United States Senator’s adhering to their oath of office is secondary to worshiping at the altar of Trump. The Hill reported:

A Missouri county GOP committee disinvited Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) to a dinner event next month, citing his recent vote against President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I am so disappointed in you now that I can hardly speak,” Wanda Martens, the party committee’s events chairwoman, wrote in an email to Blunt’s office obtained by The Kansas City Star. “Why could you not support my president in the emergency declaration? President Trump tried every available means to work the Senate to resolve the border issue and build the much needed wall. He is well within his presidential powers to do this.”

Blunt, the fourth-ranking Republican in the Senate, was the only member of GOP leadership to vote for the resolution of disapproval that would block Trump's emergency declaration. The president vetoed the resolution Friday.

The Missouri Republican cited the separation of powers to justify his vote in a radio interview last week.

“The last power really left to Congress is the power to control appropriations, the power of the purse, which anybody’s ever looked at the constitution has heard that phrase over and over again," he told KCMO. “And I think it’s an important phrase.”

Blunt has also warned a future Democratic president could take advantage of the precedent set by the national emergency declaration and take action on issues such as gun control or environmental regulations.

We have not always been very big fans of Senator Blunt but on this issue he is right on the money. Kudos to Senator Blunt for doing his job. He should view it as a badge of honor that Wanda Martens and the rest of what David Leach AKA “The Strident Conservative” calls the Fellowship of the Pharisees dislike him so much. Keep up the good work Senator. History will judge you well. As for most of the GOP in this year of our lord two thousand and nineteen. Historians will record how too many who are supposed to carry the political torch of Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and William F Buckley. Decided to sell their souls to Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Jerry Falwell, Jr and Steve Miller. Let us fight on fellow #NeverTrumpers!!!!

Ann Coulter for President?

Ann Coulter

Okay fellow renegade’s! Hope you are all having a pleasant Thursday. Today’s news we are not sure whether to file this one under comedy, tragedy or both. In another sign that politics in the U S of A has jumped the shark. Word is that some want faux conservative, bottom feeder and female impersonator Ann Coulter to challenge Donald Trump for President in 2020.

The Washington Times Stephen Dinan reports:

A political action committee that pushes for stricter immigration controls said Thursday it is launching a campaign to draft conservative writer Ann Coulter to challenge President Trump.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC has been among those most critical of Mr. Trump’s latest immigration proposal that includes temporary legal status for some 700,000 illegal immigrant “Dreamers” now protected by the Obama-era DACA program.

ALIPAC, which had been a backer of Mr. Trump’s in the 2016 election, says it’s lost faith and is now seeking a new champion.

“I hope Ann Coulter will give serious consideration to running against Trump in the primary and run on a MAGA platform offering conservative voters a pledge to keep her promises … unlike Trump!” said William Gheen, president of ALIPAC.

He said he hoped such a bid would at least convince Mr. Trump to worry about his base voters as he prepared for re-election, and perhaps force him to abandon his latest immigration plans.

ALIPAC and Ann Coulter are not the only ones to call Trump out on his fraudulent stance on cracking down on illegal immigration. David Leach better now as the writer and host of the Anti-Trump conservative podcast “The Strident Conservative” has to his great credit refused to worship at the altar of the Orange One. Leach pointed out earlier this week about how his whole stupid promise of building a border wall was all smoke and mirror’s.

Leach wrote;

Throughout Trump’s first two years in office, I’ve been one of only a handful of conservative voices shouting from the rooftops that the New York liberal’s promise to fix America’s out-of-control illegal immigration problem was nothing but a lie.

As a candidate, Trump promised to build a “big beautiful powerful wall” on our southern border at Mexico’s expense, and he promised to overturn Obama’s unconstitutional Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order that allowed illegals to stay in America indefinitely. Unfortunately, the “wall” has become an “artistically designed” barrier of some sort funded by the U.S. taxpayer, and DACA is not only still in effect, it’s on its way to becoming permanent.

While the reality of Trump’s broken promises dealing with illegal immigration have been crystal clear to those not drinking the orange Kool-Aid, his inevitable betrayal on the issue has been brought sharply into focus since last summer.

In May 2018, as Trump and the GOP were looking for ways to save their jobs ahead of the midterms, the House Freedom Caucus joined hands with Democrats to push for a “fix” to DACA.
In June 2018, Paul Ryan proposed a plan that would allow DREAMers to legally stay in the country and be put on the pathway to citizenship in exchange for $23 billion for building a border wall.
Following their September 2018 budget betraying funding everything from Planned Parenthood to DACA and sanctuary cities, rumors began spreading around Washington that Trump was ready to cut an immigration deal with Democrats in light of the reality that the Democrats were about to retake the House in the midterms.

The Democrats did retake the House, and in the days since their victory, Trump and the GOP have been laying the foundation for their inevitable immigration betrayal. With the help of Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner, trading DACA amnesty for a border wall is now the official position of the Trump administration and the GOP-controlled Senate.

So, it came as no surprise when Trump proposed a deal over the weekend to end to his manufactured government shutdown by offering Democrats a three-year extension of DACA in exchange for $5 billion for border security funding — an idea originally conceived by Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Three years? I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but that’s just enough time to kick the can down the road until after his 2020 election … assuming there is one. And just in case there are any doubts about the motivation behind this three-year timeframe, consider this: Mitch McConnell, who has refused to let the Senate vote on the shutdown, has endorsed Trump’s offer and will hold vote on it this week.

Although none of us at IR support a border wall. We do share Leach’s justifiable frustration at how to many of our fellow republicans have gone from being “conservatives” and are now “Trumpservatives”. Looks like for now anyway we no longer have a two-party political system we only have the “Unibrow” system of Trump, Lindsey Graham and Nancy Pelosi. President Reagan must be rolling over in his grave.

Conservative Writer Charlie Sykes Exposes the Fraud Behind Trump’s Wall

In what has become an all to often occurrence since the election of President Donald Trump. We the people are on a roller coaster ride from one extreme display of human stupidity to another. The partial federal government shutdown which is about to enter its third week with no signs of abating. Resolution of the shutdown has continued to be held up by the insistent demand on the part of faux conservative President Trump’s demand to build a wall along almost 2,000 miles of our southern border. The President has even foolishly and dangerously toyed with the idea of declaring a national emergency to attempt to get his mythical wall built  Just like Captain Ahab refusing to give up His misguided quest to slay Moby Dick. Donald Trump must have his wall.

Charlie Sykes Editor-In-Chief of The Bulwark

Fortunately there are still SOME real conservatives like the Indy Republican Posse, Paul Ogden, Bill Kristol, Charlie Sykes and Congressman Justin Amash R-MI who are standing firm against the attempts of Trumpism and it’s attacks on the Constitution, rule of law and the conservative traditions of Buckley, Reagan and Goldwater.

Conservative Podcaster, Writer, and Television Commentator Charlie Sykes stands among the forefront of we who are the guardians and true adherents of conservative republican principles. Mr. Sykes along with many others writes for The Bulwark website. The premier site for Trump Skeptic conservatives. Sykes has just released a video on The Bulwark’s YouTube channel outlining the conservative case against Trump’s wall and against declaring a national emergency. We encourage all of our readers pro, sometimes or never Trump to watch the video and to support The Bulwark which has as its motto the well deserved “Conservatism Conserved. Please watch the video and write, call, tweet, email the President, the Vice President, the Cabinet, and every Congressman and Senator and tell them to say “Hell No” to ANY idea of declaring a National Emergency to build a bad acid trip inspired wall.

Here is the video enjoy:

UPDATE: It appears that President Trump’s plan to declare an emergency to seize land along the border is running into some stiff resistance. Nick Berman and Katie Zezima over at The Washington Post have an
article about many Texans who are opposing a border wall. Also the editors of the late great William F. Buckley’s magazine The National Review have come out in opposition to declaring a national emergency to attempt to build a border wall. Ben Shapiro has a brilliant article analyzing why Trump should not declare an emergency.

What’s Hiding in Lindsey Graham’s Closet?

Good afternoon fellow patriots. We like many of our fellow conservatives and libertarians have been frustrated with Senator Lindsey Graham’s lack of a spine and balls for the better part of a decade. But his well documented transformation from Never Trump to Trump’s Butt Kisser has sickened even our cast iron stomachs. Personally we believe that he is just trying to hitch his wagon to whatever is the latest political horse. Other’s however have a different theory as to why Graham has become submissive to President Trump.

We were cruising around cyberspace and came across the following from one of our favorite conservatives S.E. Cupp:

This brought to mind a post from back in 2015 by the late great Gary Welsh about speculation that both then Senator Mark Kirk and Lindsey Graham were both gay. The friend to all patriots everywhere and the IR Gang’s eternal hero had this to say:

Both Kirk, who is divorced, and the single Graham have been the subject of persistent rumors about their sexual orientation.

Gary was referring to a comment made by then Senator Mark Kirk that Graham is “a bro with no ho”. The comment came up in the context of if Graham were to ever be elected president. Since Graham is not married he said he would pick either he sister or one of his female friends to serve as First Lady.

We just cannot help but to think that Gary Welsh would be having a field day with Lindsey Graham’s flip flopping if he was still alive. For the record IR doesn’t believe that Graham is gay. Just an opportunist who we all would gladly have leave public life. We do agree with Gary that Ann Coulter is actually a man.

Till next time everyone!

Live Blogging President Trump’s Address on Border Issues w/Update

9:05 PM Trump says that their is a crisis on the southern border of the United States of illegal immigrants. Says that the Trump Administration has proposed to congress funding for extra immigration judges, processing of immigrants, and $5.7 Billion for a physical barrier at the border.

9:08 PM Trump states the border wall would pay for itself due to preventing the flow of illegal drugs and illegal immigrants entering the country. Trump claims that the wall will be a steel rather than a concrete wall as a concession to democrats. Trump has said nothing about how higher steel tariffs will effect the cost of building a steel wall.

9:12 PM So far Trump has just been recycling the same old rhetoric of trying to pressure congress into building a border wall. Hasn’t worked so far.

9:13 PM To our great surprise Trump only spoke for less than 10 minutes. But as IR expected the speech amounted to less than nothing. Democrats will not feel particularly interested in helping Trump, and wavering Republicans will not be reassured by Trumps ranting and raving.

UPDATE: As sour as it sits on IR’s tongue Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer D-NY & House Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-CA both came off a little better in their response to Trump than Trump came off in his speech. Schumer clearly was attempting to rile President Trump by saying “the country cannot be run by twitter tantrums”. Wouldn’t be surprised if soon the Twitterer-In-Chief loses his cool and goes insane and lashes out again on Twitter.

So Wrong But So Funny Thursday

In what might or might not become a new regular feature on the blog. We found something that is so wrong and yet so funny at the same time. President Donald Trump has been complaining that the new House Democratic majority launching investigations of him could amount to “Presidential Harassment”. Well we found this tweet which sums up our views of the House and Presidential Harassment:

If this is true given what is known of Trump’s private life he may stop complaining about what the House Democrats will do!

Rand Paul Betrays Liberty Republicans and Backs Trump

Senator Rand Paul RINO-Sellout KY

As much of a broken record as we are at this point. Truth compels is to once again admit that we are being put into a position that we never thought we would be in. Being that we find ourselves defending Senator-Elect Mitt Romney against our former ally Senator Rand “Traitor” Paul. We are referring to Senator Paul’s response to Senator Romney’s Washington Post Op-Ed  n which Romney said: "On balance, his (President Trump) conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office,".  We will delve into Mitt Romney’s Op-Ed in more detail in this and some other posts. For the moment we will keep discussing Senator Paul. We are goin on record here saying this is not a post that INDY REPUBLICAN writes lightly, nor are we in anyway permanently closing the door to the possibility our old friend Senator Paul can find his way back into our good graces. But we at IR are big believers in facing reality. And bottom line is since our Conservative/Libertarian principles are incompatible with supporting the Eastern Liberal Elitist President Donald Trump as the head of what to us should be the party of the individual, the party that promotes equality of opportunity, and the return to a coequal balance of power between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of our government. By extension Rand Paul’s equating of Donald Trump’s governance with Reagan/Goldwater Republicanism. Shows that the good Doctor Paul has way wandered off the reservation. Our readers may recall a previous post in which we praised Senator Paul for his criticism of President Trump for wanting to continue the war in Afghanistan. We are proud of that post and stand by each and every word. That being said as long as Rand Paul continues to defend Trump we are forced to hold his feet to the fire.

Now let’s get to the heart of what has all of us at IR steaming at Rand Paul. According to TheHill in an article written today by John Bowden:

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) took aim at his incoming Senate colleague Mitt Romney on Wednesday after the Utah senator-elect targeted President Trump in an op-ed criticizing the president's character.

In a tweet, the Kentucky senator accused Romney of attempting to display "how virtuous he is in comparison to the President," while calling him a "big government Republican" opposed to former President Reagan's ideals of limited federal power.

Below are Senator Paul and President Trump’s Twitter responses to Senator-Elect Romney’s article:

Senator Mitt Romney (R?-UT)

As much as we have criticized Romney in the past and wished he would just fade into the sunset. As he was right to oppose Roy Moore when Moore ran for the US Senate in Alabama. Romney is absolutely correct in calling out Trump as being ill-suited to being president. He is also correct in pointing out that Trump is right to push for lower taxes, and to oppose burdensome regulations. That the President’s alienating of long standing American allies, his pandering to communists dictators such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-Un, and his advocacy of higher and higher tariffs have only served to make America respected less, not admired more. We still have a healthy amount of skepticism towards Romney and are not saying we would grant him sainthood. We will say that he would make a far superior president than Trump. A low bar to clear yes, but much better than any socialist democrat that’s for sure. It will be interesting to see what other reactions there will be to Romney’s Op-Ed. We are especially curious to see how his niece the shrewish RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney-McDaniel will react to it. Something tells us we are glad we aren’t going to be going to the Romney house for the holidays!

Update: Guy Benson has his take over at Townhall on Mitt Romney’s opening salvo against Trump and also points out just how unpopular Trump is in Utah.

Green Acres Theme As Sung By Donald Trump

With all the serious news out today: Mattis’s resignation as Defense Secretary, and the New Hampshire And South Carolina GOP Bosses scheming to cancel the 2020 Presidential Primaries in their states, and a possible pullout of troops from Syria and Afghanistan. Before we comment on those topics after the holidays. We all felt that you all deserved to see something entertaining. Yes it’s true that INDY REPUBLICAN has been rough on President Trump. But he does have a great, great singing voice, it’s tremendous!!

One of our readers sent us this video of President Trump singing the theme to that great television classic “Green Acres”.

Now for your listening and viewing pleasure, the stable musical genius of President Donald J Trump!

President Trump’s Unpopularity Sinking The Republican Party

Three weeks have now passed since the congressional midterms were held. We are going to give it to you straight we Republicans are in big trouble! It’s YUGE! We have lost 7 governorships, 393 state legislative seats and 7 state legislative chambers since 2017. Not to mention 40 U.S. House seats. Orange County, California once the bedrock of Republicanism on the West Coast is now trending Democratic. The GOP went from having all 4 congressional seats that were part of Orange County to having none after this election. Orange County voted for the Democratic Presidential Candidate in 2016. The first time in 80 years the GOP’s Presidential nominee lost Orange County. Here in Indiana we lost our first state senate seat in 20 years as well as 3 state house seats. Our friend Paul Ogden has more on the results here in Indiana over at his blog today.

Gallup has President Trump’s disapproval rating at 60%. The President has yet to have his approval rating climb into the 50 percentage range or higher even once in his almost two years in office. All over the country the GOP has lost ground in the suburbs. Not just in the suburbs of Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. But we lost seats in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Kansas and we even lost a congressional seats in Oklahoma and Mia Love’s seat in Utah. Utah by the way is so hostile to Democrats that Hillary Clinton almost came in third to Evan McMullin in 2016. To assert as many of our fellow Republicans do that Trump was not a factor in this is at best willful blindness and at worst being delusional.

The President did nothing to discourage misconceptions about why so many House Republicans lost.

Morning after the midterms Trump proceeded to chide by name republicans who lost by saying they didn’t embrace him enough.  Basically Trump was in essence saying: “Those idiots, If only they had listened to ME! They didn’t build the wall fast enough!” This should lay to rest any doubts as to whether or not Trump can learn from his mistakes. If there is to be any chance of us avoiding a long stay in the political wilderness the party must run someone other than Donald Trump in 2020. There is no chance at all that Trump will become more Presidential or that Mike Pence will get a spine. Trump and Pence cannot and are not worthy of being saved. The only thing to be down is to go tell Donald Trump and his toady Mike Pence to go f__k themselves. It’s time to return to the ideals of the greatest republicans past and present, current and former, living and dead, Pro and Anti-Trump. Men and women like: Abe Lincoln, Chester Arthur, Teddy Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Dwight Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Margret Chase Smith, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Charles Percy, Susan B. Anthony, Mia Love, Gary Welsh, Paul Ogden, Charlie White, Rex Early, Christine Scales, Susan Wright, Fredrick Douglas, Charlie Sykes, Sarah Rumpf, Nikki Haley and many others.

Become PC? This NeverTrumper Says Hell No!

As many of you have probably figured out by now INDY REPUBLICAN are not fans or supporters of Donald Trump, the alt-right, or the Social Justice Warrior crowd. The reason is that all three of these groups oppose free speech, rule of law, freedom of association, and an aversion to logic and reason. The SJW’s are all up in arms wanting to regulate the content of video games, and institute “safe spaces” where people don’t have to be bothered by those they disagree with. Roy Moore, Steve Bannon, Donald Trump and the alt-right are just as opposed to free expression and free speech as their annoyingly tasteless counterparts in the SJW crowd. The reason that Trump and the alt-right and the SJW’s attack and hate each other is because they are too much the same. IR is decidedly right-of-center politically, and we consider ourselves the heirs of the authentic conservatism of William F Buckley, Ronald Reagan, and Barry Goldwater. We do not follow the faux conservativism of Steve Bannon, Steve Miller and Donald Trump. Needless to say being the scourge of the SJW’s and the bane of the Alt-Right puts us into an interesting spot. Many of our more liberal and/or democratic friends and readers love it when we bash Trump. But turn on us when we support the entire constitution, favor free trade and support free markets. The only way to deal with this is to stand firm on our values and principles and refuse to bow before the altar of stupidity.

We found a cool video online that helps sum up our problems with the Uber PC Left. Although many of it’s criticisms can be leveled at the Alt-Right as well. Here is the video telling you why we will never be politically correct:

Jerry Falwell, Jr Betrays the Gospel to Serve His Golden Calf

Conman Jerry Falwell, Jr

Just as the ancient Hebrews at times stumbled and began to worship heathen idols. So has Jerry Falwell, JR decided to sell out his never existent faith and values to follow his own golden calf: Donald Trump. Like his father before him. He has finished his mad dash to Gomorrah for a seat at the Satanic section of politics. For this he is zealously guarding his thirty pieces of silver.

Showing that his sycophancy is more numerous than all the grains of sand. Junior tweeted out the following blasphemy earlier today:

Let’s just stop and reflect on what Falwell Jr is saying. He is saying that Christians need “street fighters” more than they need “great christian leaders”. Here you have a man who has made his livelihood by saying he is following the great commission given to us by Christ himself where Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Note that the Savior did not say to seize temporal power over our fellow man. But that is the exact thrust of Mr. Falwell’s statements and activities for quite sometime now. Another misconception we will attack head on is that being a “street fighter” is necessarily incompatible with being a Christian. Depending on how one is to define being a street fighter. If a street fighter is only fighting in self defense or in defense of others than that doesn’t disqualify them from the fellowship of Christ. If by street fighter one means a common thug, highwayman or gangster. Than that is wholly incompatible with the faith of Christ. We say this in our capacity as Christians, as well as being huge fans of the Street Fighter video game series.

Space does not permit us here to outline every possible objection to our take on Falwell’s false view of the role of our fellow Christians in the world. So we shall answer the biggest objection we have received thus far to our assertion that Falwell is preaching false doctrine. After which we will site others responses to his early morning ramblings.

One of the most common objections given as to our belief that Falwell’s message is anathema to Christianity is what about when Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-36 ESV: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. sI have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 rFor I have come tto set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 uAnd a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.”

Answer: Matthew 10:34–36 describes Jesus telling the disciples that He came not to bring peace to the world, but a sword. Jesus’ sword was never a literal one. In fact, when Peter took up a sword to defend Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus rebuked him and told him to put away his sword, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). Why then, did Jesus say, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” What kind of sword did Jesus come to bring?

Among the names of Jesus Christ is that of Prince of Peace. Such verses as Isaiah 9:6Luke 2:14, and John 14:27 make it clear that Jesus came to bring peace, but that peace is between the man and God. Those who reject God and the only way of salvation through Jesus (John 14:6) will find themselves perpetually at war with God. But those who come to Him in repentance will find themselves at peace with God. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are restored to a relationship of peace with God (Romans 5:1).

Still, it is inevitable that there will be conflict between good and evil, the Christ and the antichrist, the light and the darkness, the children of God (believers) and the children of the devil (those who refuse Christ). Conflict must arise between the two groups, and this can and does happen within a family in which some are believers and others are not. We should seek to be at peace with all men but should never forget that Jesus warned we will be hated for His sake. Because those who reject Him hate Him, they will hate His followers as well (John 15:18).

We recommend clicking the above link to read the full analysis. Our point is that Jesus was speaking of the inevitable conflicts that arise for those of us who strive to follow Christ and those who seek to tear us down. He was not saying to go out and go medieval on others. Of course someone will always say: “Well what if this happens, what if that happens.” Okay you know what? Yes you could probably always find an exception to almost anything. What an earth shattering revelation!

As promised we will close this by showing you some feedback that others have given to Falwell. After this post we wouldn’t be surprised if we are inundated with messages telling us that our souls are damned for disagreeing with Falwell. That’s very sweet but we would rather be truthful and throw ourselves on God’s unlimited and unconditional love than lie to ourselves and others.
