Indy Republican’s View of Principles First 2023 Summit

Having attended last year’s Principles First Summit in Washington DC, naturally our humble correspondent was, of course curious to see just how the mood of the conference would be versus last year.

Also, we were curious to see how attendance would be at this year‘s summit, as opposed to how it was last year this time . We arrived at the Conrad, DC. In enough time to get registered for the summit and to take our place in the ballroom to begin the summit.

Heath Mayo the founder of Principles first started off the summit by giving a little talk titled “Putting Principles First”, his speech was very well done, and basically covered what he felt are Principles First’s main goals. Heath said the main goal of the summit was to help grow the principled movement, and as Heath pointed out, we are principaled conservatives, and basically our goal is to work to improve our existing institutions, and that we favor empowerment over victimhood and also to point out how the America first movement is fundamentally anti-American, because it does not support the traditional view held by conservatives of America whatsoever. Mister Mayo also criticized the idea held by many at CPAC that unless we elect their particular brand of politicians, then basically the country is finished. This is similar to what Barry Goldwater wrote in his final book Goldwater in 1988, where he pointed out that “the sky will not fall in a member of Congress or the country, if they are not reelected.”

Next up was a discussion over the subject of why American institutions matter. Bill Kristol started off by discussing his recent trip to Europe, specifically to Prague in the Czech Republic, and had pointed out how they elected a new pro American president, and how, unlike at other past visits to Europe he was encouraged by many trends pro democracy trends he saw. Kristol also talked about the importance of reforming our institutions, and how institutions can help to mold character he also pointed out how the late great William F Buckley believed in guard rails and how he, Barry Goldwater and President Reagan tossed the John Birch Society to the curb back in the late 1960s early 1970s, which is of course an interesting contrast to President Trump and MAGA World that have embraced and empowered such silliness.

Mona Charen was the next one up to speak. She discussed the nature in which Americas institutions were under attack and does point out correctly that institutions sometimes behave badly and still do but she did discuss the positive aspects of institutions such as they can be character building and also they force people to work well together or face consequences when behaving badly. She pointed out how there needs to be accountability in order to make American institutions work better, the most key example that she gave was how the US Congress needs more accountability in order for it to start behaving better and for the members of it to live up to their oaths of office, she did point out though that just nonstop reflective attacks on institutions are what she called “social poison“ she also pointed out how institutions can decline and revive. As an example of she pointed out how the military in the United States had been in a state of decline in the 1970s, but how it started to revive quite a bit in the 1980s and 1990s she also points out how although some institutions such as the Heritage Foundation, Fox News, Claremont Institute, CPAC,etc. had caved into Trumpism. She pointed out that there were many that have refused to do so such as the American Enterprise Institute. She also pointed out how Alexis de Tocqueville said the great thing about America is Americans can create new institutions, overall, Miss Charen seemed to be fairly optimistic about our ability to reform our existing institutions, and also to create new ones, when warranted such as The Bulwark, The Dispatch, and Principles First joining together to promote their ideas, and to push back against extremism on the left and right.

James Waller, who was the last to speak on the subject of American institutions in their value, had stated that institutions are “the secret sauce of American exceptionalism“.

The next topic up for discussion was Americans, foreign policy institutions and Putin‘s war in Ukraine. Tom Nichols, started off by pointing out how now Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida had flip-flopped on Ukraine, and when he was in Congress was a start supporter of supporting America’s allies abroad. But has since turned against Ukraine.

Lieutenant General Mark Hertling pointed out why Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has gone so badly. He pointed out that Putin didn’t take into account sufficiently before launching his invasion. These included not considering just the size of Ukraine’s landmass the fact that it had nine major cities, and that Putin failed to do a troop to task analysis.

A lot of issues that have been faced he said that have caused the Russians so much trouble fighting the Ukrainian’s, included the Russian army having a weak command structure, badly trained soldiers, and as he pointed out in warfare power equals resources times will. In warfare it’s not just a question of what resources you have, but how are they used. If they are not used effectively then it is ultimately counterproductive.

The generals commentary on how resources have to be used effectively, and it is not just a question of do you have more and better resources than your opponent could also be applied to many other areas, especially the political sphere one area, which we will has promoted us here at this blog, to do a deep dive into is just how we as principled conservatives can use our resources, most effectively in order to push back against extremism.

The last member of the panel ambassador, Roger Noriega, pointed out that we as ordinary citizens can help support, the Ukrainian war many of whom are temporary in the United States directly, and also to make sure to contact our lawmakers, and to help them to understand that there is widespread support for continuing to help Ukraine.

Stephen Richer the Recorder of Maricopa County in Arizona discussed how American elections help to uphold our democratic republic. Richer, who is the recorder of Maricopa county in Arizona and has received a lot of pushback for refusing to bend to President Trump and his allies during the 2020 presidential election. He also pointed out ideas on voter persuasion which consist of understanding what voters want, listening and engaging with them.

Governor Wes Moore of Maryland pointed out that the best way that office seekers can help to uphold democracy is that when they run for office is don’t just try to turn out their base only, but to campaign everywhere where they are running. The governor  pointed out during his campaign for governor in Maryland last year, he campaigned in his opponents hometown, while his opponent was away at Mar-a-Lago doing a fundraiser. And it did pay to campaign everywhere because even in areas where they weren’t many people who would support him they would take notice of his presence and several told him he was the first person running for governor to visit their town in 20 years. As to how to push back against election denialism, talk about how election deniers are not strong, powerful people. They are very weak because they have this entitlement mentality that they can only lose if they are cheated out out of a victory which is utterly at variance with our beliefs in free market competition, American exceptionalism, and letting the voters decide who wins.

Next up was Adrian Fontes the secretary of state of Arizona. Fontes said that you win elections by welcoming other voters in, you also have to make the people care about you as a person. If they care about you and what you stand for enough, they will ignore your party label. You have to reach out to people who disagree with you, being a person matters being assertive and aggressive when necessary to defending your values is important, but make sure to reach out to the voters and help to assuage their concerns. They may not agree with you, but if you present yourself well, and you engage with them directly, their concerns about you will be put will be put more at ease. And if they’re fairly comfortable with your person whether you defeat there candidate or not, it makes them less likely to believe that you’re trying to cheat them.

After taking about an hour and a half or so for lunch, we then reconvened and our next discussion basically was about how to keep the peace after the incident of January 6, 2021 the riot on the capital. To assist in dealing with this question Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump official and now a host on ABC’s The View interviewed Officers Michael Fanone and Harry Dunn, who are both police officers in Washington DC. The officers stated out that to break through the echo chamber of false information. Accountability is the way to do it. One of the reasons why there wasn’t really much of any in the way of violence after last years midterm was because so many of the January 6 rioters are serving time in prison in some cases several decades that definitely has had a deterrent effect against election violence.

Next up was a live taping of The Bulwark Podcast, which was aired Monday March 6, 2023. The podcast was Charlie Sykes interviewing former US Ambassador to the UN, and former national security advisor John Bolton. Sykes asked good and hard questions of the ambassador and to Bolton‘s credit. He answered directly, sometimes not to the satisfactory of many of the audience, but he was willing to engage in a venue in which people would not agree with him across the board and we give him great credit for that. After the taping of the episode, we went back to get an autograph from the ambassador, and exchange a few pleasantries with him.

David Frum a good speech, writer, and political scientist, a veteran of both Bush administration’s, and a conservative critic of the presidency of Donald Trump, gave a brief but good speech, where he talked about how what we are doing with principles first is helping to make an impact. This year’s summit was larger than the last. Frum recounted about how William F Buckley in the early 70s moved to revive Conservatism and how in his opinion, he feels working within the two party system is the only way forward. Frum struck to us a more optimistic tone about the possibilities of working within the two party system to defend American traditions, as opposed to last years summit.

The discussion held after Frum’s speech. Was a panel about looking ahead to 2024, what their hopes were and what they were nervous about. Amanda Carpenter said what her hope was is that she hoped that Trump and Ron DeSantis would just destroy each other in the primaries, and that a somewhat sensible Republican candidate would get the presidential nomination. Sarah Longwell wants an alternative Republican candidate for president and also for Trump to lose badly she is of the opinion the only way that we are going to revive a healthy two party system is for the extremist sides of both political parties to suffer so many electoral defeats that they are largely powerless to affect anything on any significant level. We are in agreement with Longwell, and we continue to push back hard against extremism in both parties.

Nicholas Grossman said one thing he was grateful for is, is that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger, also of Georgia, managed to not only win their primaries with a fair amount of ease, but also went on to easily get reelected, and also the fact that many election deniers lost is very encouraging. Mr. Grossman pointed out though that as did the rest of the panel that it is not just enough for Democrats, especially to oppose the craziness on the Republican side they also have to give people a positive vision going forward not just a reason to vote against Republican extremism, but also a positive case for themselves And also what is needed on the Republican side, is we need more people of goodwill, who are willing to engage in the political process and not be afraid to lose at times. This gave us a flashback to last year‘s conference when Miles Taylor had said what we can do if we want more principled people in politics, is follow the law of supply and demand, if we can increase the supply enough of principled people in politics, we can lower the cost to them of entering, basically following the principle that if you increase the  supply of something, the cost will go down.

Overall we were pleased with this years summit. We are noticeably more optimistic about the future than last year. We hope next year to have more discussions of policy issues and how to organize to reform both parties, and to keep building a more cross partisan coalition of principled conservatives. We were sorely tempted to send some veggie trays to Trump PAC CPAC labeled “Crudite”, but decided against it. Maybe we can troll them more next year!

Prologue: Principles First 2023 Summit

One of our intrepid reporters is attending this year‘s principles first summit. This is the third summit they have held and the second one that our humble correspondent has attended.

Last year’s summit was an enormous display of optimism and enthusiasm and helped the foundation for many Trumpist’s candidates in last years midterm elections. As conservatives who have seen our good name hijacked by the anti conservative disciples of Donald Trump, we especially look forward to the chance to meet with others in person and share insights, fellowship and strategies. This much sharing of knowledge is much needed and should prove to be an energizing experience as it did last year.

We will be curious to see how and in what ways the mood of this years summit will be from last year. It is true that we have often felt as isolated from old institutions as many of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation felt 500 years ago from their churches. There will even be a discussion about faith at the summit. We will do our best to keep you updated as fast as possible about the summit and our impressions of it.

We will especially be watching to see if attendance is higher than last year and also we will be watching to see if CPAC is showing signs of decline from previous years.

We will catch you all later, be safe and God Bless you all!

Some Words of Encouragement about tonight’s Primaries

Congresswoman Liz Cheney Real Republican-WY

Tonight there are primaries in both Wyoming and Alaska. This primary season we have had our share of wins, with Brad Raffensperger and Brian Kemp in GeorgiaCongressman Don Bacon of Nebraska, and Congressmen Dan Newhouse of Washington, and Congressman David Valado of California. On the loses side we have had Congressman Tom Rice of South Carolina, Congressman Peter Meijer of Michigan and Congresswoman  Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington, and most probably the great Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming.

Senator Lisa Murkowski Real Republican-Alaska

However even if Congresswoman Cheney does lose tonight, it appears that Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska will make through to the general election. We like all of you are disappointed in what loses we have had so far, but we are also jubilant over our victories. This will be a long and difficult struggle, but we are united in our belief in upholding the Constitution, and defending the Republic for which it stands. Unlike the talking heads of the extreme left and right, we believe in the equality of opportunity, the rule of law, and that the United States should show protection to all and favoritism towards no one. We believe truly in the nations motto E Pluribus Unum “Out of Many One”. We are one nation, we are the United States of America. We are united in our faith that the United States is a “shining city on the hill”, we are the candle in the darkness, and we are willing to atone for our sins and to aspire to the better angels of our nature.

We will persevere, and ultimately win because unlike the forces of illiberalism on the left and right, we have a positive vision of our nation and ourselves. We do not subscribe to the dark, grievance politics of the Trumpian Alt-Right, or the Loony Left. Regardless of tonight’s results we will fight on, we will seek out and find the politically homeless, and set the captives of anti Americanism free from lies and deception and help them to see the truth. That this is indeed the greatest nation on God’s Green Earth!!!

Go forth and continue to fight for the rights of all, to be an individual not merely just a cog in some arbitrary group. Understand that you can positively affect your own destiny, now go out there, vote for the candidates who best reflect your values! Your constitutional right to vote, is more important than any tribalist edicts! The decision as to who will represent us at the local, state and national levels is yours and yours alone!!!!!

Go out there, campaign with your head held high! Vote only for the best possible candidates! Don’t believe that you must always pick the lesser of two evils! Remember those who disagree with us are usually just our opponents, not our enemies! I have faith in you all and in God that the best days for America are still ahead! Be part of making America more great!!!

God bless you and keep you all! And God Bless the United States of America!!!!

To close here is a video of a real American President Ronald Reagan and him being moved by the “Battle Hymn of Thr Republic”. Contrast his genuine patriotism, his reverence for America as opposed to the clownish Buffon Donald Trump!

His Truth is Marching On!

A Few Thoughts on America, Religion and the Future

In contrast to the broad scope of the title of this column. This post will be brief and to the point. We understand and in many ways share the concerns and fears of our fellow Americans in this the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-one. However we also are possessed of the spirit of eternal optimism that has been a part of our American character since the first settlers arrived centuries ago on our shores.

There has been talk recently of many people all over the ideological spectrum about the possible splitting apart of these United States. To this we say: Nonsense! The republic has withstood a civil war and countless threats since the days of the founders. And we will survive today. Another fact that is ignored is that for any breaking apart of the country to occur, enough of us would have to quit watching tv, and go fight. We might be wrong but we see little evidence that will occur.

Politicians come and go, but the United States remains. We must learn to turn away from politics as a religion and return it to the realm of upholding the constitution and the republic for which it stands. If we repent or rethink our ideas and where we wish to go, we will recapture the best and most true parts of both our spiritual and political traditions. At times we will site various scriptural passages in support of general principles and to show both religious and secular backing for the truths we hold dear and proclaim.

We as Americans have far more control and options than we often give ourselves credit for. We understand why people are frustrated with politics, we are also. Bottom line is that most politicians are selling all of us short. When we all go to our jobs, when we are with our family and friends. We deep down want to achieve greatness, we wish to provide for ourselves and those we love. We want to work productively. We don’t care where our neighbors are from, what the color of their skin is, or even if they disagree with us in radical ways. What we do care about is that others treat us with respect, don’t try to run our lives for us and they let us live in peace. The political establishment of both parties wants to keep us down, they want us to be dependent on them for our food, shelter and fortunes. The sheer size of the federal deficit is the unanswerable argument against allowing politicians to have control over our lives! As it is written: “Let none be ye called masters” Matthew 23:10

If we want to improve ourselves and others we can and we will! We can worry about litter all day, or we can adopt a highway and help keep it clean. We can complain about poverty and hunger, or we can donate food and other goods to charity or even cut out the middleman and give to others ourselves. The sky is nowhere near the limit!

We won’t lie and say this will be easy. There will be difficulties and as Thomas Paine said “these are the times that try mens souls”. As it is written: “Blessed is he who perseveres under trial” James 1:12

To all our brothers and sisters in America and around the world. We wish you all long life and happiness. In future posts we will elaborate further on how we best believe we can proceed to but ourselves and our nation back in order. There are policy and ideological issues that are relevant to the great task remaining. However we believe many of the political and spiritual problems facing us are a matter more of temperament than ideology.

We thank you all for your continuing support, we are forever indebted to many wonderful Hoosier patriots: Christine Scales, Paul Ogden, Charlie White and the late, great Gary Welsh. We love you Gary! Your spirit lives still!

Praise be to God! Amen! Hallelujah! Good Golly Miss Molly!

And with that we leave you with this inspirational tune. The unforgettable theme to “Chariots of Fire” by the inimitable band Vangellis:

The Differences Between Real Republicans and Trump Imposters

In the near future we plan on outlining in greater detail why we, as Anti-Trump Conservatives are the true followers of Conservatism and Republicanism. Unlike the tangerine con man Trump.

For now the picture below though short of a thousand words, illustrates briefly the extent to which the modern Trumplican Party has left we Republicans politically homeless:

Todd Young Grows a Pair by Calling for Roy "Dirty Judge" Moore to end his Senate Campaign

Senator Todd Young-R IN

Embattled Alabama Republican Roy Moore's Senate run was complicated by some new developments today. One of which we are proud to report is that our very own Senator Todd Young has called for Moore to pull out of the senate race.

Maureen Groppe over at INDYSTAR has the story:

Indiana Sen. Todd Young joined other Republicans on Monday — including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. — in urging Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore to drop out of the race.

Young made the statement after a fifth woman accused Moore of making sexual or romantic advances toward her when she was a teenager.

Senator Young made the following statement on Twitter:

Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado, who heads the campaign arm of Senate Republicans, was more specific Monday in saying the Senate should vote to expel Moore if he wins the special election in December.

The fifth woman to come forward today to accuse Judge Moore of improper behavior is Beverly Young Nelson. Nelson accused Moore of sexual assault back in 1977  during a press conference today.

CNN's Eli Watkins reports:

An Alabama woman alleges Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager, her attorney Gloria Allred said Monday.
Allred said her client, Beverly Young Nelson, would be willing to testify under oath and called on the Senate judiciary committee to hold a hearing and subpoena Moore.
"Mr. Moore attacked me when I was a child," Nelson said, adding that she was 15 when he began flirting with her and 16 at the time of the alleged assault. "I want Mr. Moore to know that he no longer has any power over me."
The allegations of force, if true, would be considered sexual abuse in the first degree, but the statute of limitations in effect at the time would have passed.

Nelson detailed her allegations in a statement alongside Allred, an attorney who focuses on discrimination and women's rights.
Nelson said Moore was a regular at the Olde Hickory House, a restaurant she worked at when she was starting high school.
At the press conference with Allred, Nelson said Moore wrote an inscription in her yearbook one day in December 1977 that said, "To a sweeter more beautiful girl, I could not say, 'Merry Christmas.'" She said he signed it "Roy Moore, D.A."
She said that one evening he offered her a ride home.
Instead of taking her home, Nelson said Moore pulled his car behind the restaurant and began to attack her.

"Mr. Moore reached over and began groping me and putting his hands on my breasts," Nelson said.
She said she tried to open the car door to leave, but Moore locked it and continued to grab her.
"He began squeezing my neck, attempting to force my head onto his crotch. I continued to struggle," Nelson said. "I thought that he was going to rape me."
She said she began to cry and beg him to stop and that eventually he did relent before telling her not to speak.
"At some point he gave up, and he then looked at me," Nelson said. "He said, 'You're just a child,' and he said, 'I am the district attorney of Etowah County and if you tell anyone about this, no one will ever believe you.'"

Nelson said she was inspired to speak out because of the women that came forward to the Post.
"I would probably have taken what Mr. Moore did to me to my grave had it not been for the courage of four other women that were willing to speak out about their experiences with Mr. Moore," Nelson said.
Allred said her client declined to take questions but would be willing to speak in public further should the Senate Judiciary Committee decline to hold a hearing on the matter in the next two weeks.

Here is an image of the yearbook inscription from 1977 and Roy Moore's signature from earlier this year:

Now none of us here at the blog are handwriting experts. But based off the evidence of our own eyes the signatures seem to match. Now the fact that he may have signed a high school yearbook proves nothing other than he signed the book. But it seems very strange that a man in his thirties would be sign some high school girls yearbook. INDY REPUBLICAN hereby joins with Senator's Todd Young, Mitch McConnell, Jeff Flake, Cory Gardner, Mike Lee, Lindsey Graham and Steve Daines in calling on Roy Moore to withdraw from the Alabama Senate Race in the name of human decency. In another post we will go into more detail on other principled conservatives, republicans, and libertarians who have refused to back this odious excuse for a man Roy Moore. We would be remiss if we did not pay this compliment to Senator Todd Young. Senator your stand is principled, courageous, and shows that you have a spine and some balls. So we will remove 50 sins from your political career because this is an awesome move on your part.

We highly encourage our readers to look at Ms. Groppe's column over at Indystar by clicking here. Also please Contact Maureen Groppe and tell her how much you appreciate this article she wrote. She can be reached via email at mgroppe@gannett.com. Or follow her on Twitter: @mgroppe.

Please also read Eli Watkins piece here.

To the victims of Roy Moore we wish to offer these words of comfort from the words of Saint John the Revelator:

Revelation 21:4New King James Version (NKJV)
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

UPDATE: It appears that Texas Senator Ted Cruz has decided to jump on the "No More Moore" bandwagon. Redstate has the story here.

UPDATE: Folks we are going to need a whole fleet of wagons to carry all the Republicans who now want to kick Roy Moore to the curb. In an unusual bit of new Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin is saying Moore should be dumped:

The Hill is also reporting that the White House has floated the idea of trying to send Attorney General Jeff Sessions back to his old Senate seat in Alabama as a way to get rid of Roy Moore.

The New Yorker is also reporting that Roy Moore was banned from the Gasden, Alabama Mall in the 1980's for hassling teenage girls.

In what we hope will be the last update on this post MSNBC reporter Chris Hayes has some interesting things to point out about Roy Moore's past:

Vote out Pledge Breaking Congressman Markwayne Mullin!

Rep. Markwayne Mullin RINO-OK

According to a July 5, 2017 article by Cristina Marcos published on thehill.com Congressman Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma has decided to violate his original pledge to serve only six years in congress and run for another term.

Marcos writing for The Hill reports:

In a video posted by his campaign, Mullin said he and his family originally only expected a six-year run when he first launched a bid for the House in 2012.
But after feeling frustrated during his first two terms trying to work with the Obama administration, Mullin said he wanted to stick around while President Trump is in office.
"We looked at each other and we said, 'We're running again,' " Mullin said of a conversation with his wife, Christie.
"We understand that people are going to be upset. And we get that. We understand it," Mullin said. "I'm not hiding from that. Because we did say we were going to serve six years."
Mullin appeared jointly in the video with his wife, who said they initially worried that a tenure in Congress would negatively impact their family and plumbing business.

"We truly felt like we would serve six years and have to come back and patch together our family, like pick our business up," Christie Mullin said.
But their worst fears never came to fruition, she said.
"Our kids said, 'Dad, yes, you have to run again!' " she said.
Markwayne Mullin attributed his decision to having a better understanding of how politics works and said his position has simply evolved over time.
"I don't think there's one person that's never changed their mind six years apart from each other or how they would approach things," Mullin said.
This is not the first time that Congressman Mullin has drawn criticism during his time in office. Back in April Mr. Mullin was under fire for saying that it is "bull crap" the idea that taxpayers pay his salary.
On April 13. 2017 Nikita Vladimirov wrote
Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) faced off with constituents at a town hall this week, telling the members of the audience that they don't pay his salary.
"You say you pay for me to do this? That’s bullcrap," Mullin said at the town hall in Jay, Okla., according to a video of the incident.

"I pay for myself. I paid enough taxes before I got here and continue to through my company to pay my own salary. This is a service. No one here pays me to go,” he added.
After constituents pushed back, Mullin reiterated that being a lawmaker is not "how I make my living."
“I’m just saying ... this is a service for me, not a career, and I thank God this is not how I make my living,” he said.
The article states that Mullin owns Mullin Plumbing. Which is presumably how Mullin makes most of his money since he claims not to be a "career politician".
IR knew nothing of Mullin until this past week. But just judging by the tone that Mullin takes and the overall dishonesty that permeates from this man's mouth. He should be voted out of office!
Fortunately Republicans already have a good candidate challenging Mr. Mullin in next years GOP congressional primary. His name is Jarrin Jackson. He ran against Mullin in the 2016 primary. He is an Afghan War veteran, an executive of a nonprofit organization, and a fierce advocate of term limits. He also opposes nation building. If anyone is interested in helping Mr. Jackson in his bid to oust Mullin from Congress you can click here to go to his website and help out his campaign.

Indiana Democrats stupidly reelect John Zody State Chairman

Yesterday Hoosier Democrats met and voted to keep John Zody as their state chairman. We have to ask. Do Hoosier Democrats ever want to win anything? Why do you guys vote to keep this guy after you got massacred last year? Yes we know you picked up one state house seat. But John Gregg lost his bid for Governor against fake Republican Eric Holcomb, Glenda Ritz lost her bid for reelection, and to top it off you guys picked Evan Bayh to run for his old senate seat! So what else would possess democrats to give John Zody another chance to be state party chair? Do you guys want to become more irrelevant? For our state and country to survive and thrive we need two viable political parties. Of course Hoosier Democrats would rather continue their domination of Marion and Lake Counties than actually win and have any real influence. Both parties in Indiana would rather play not to lose rather than play to win. We have news for you guys. Real Republicans throughout Indiana want to actually win. We aren't satisfied with keeping every mediocrity that runs on our team in office. So to our Democratic friends do yourselves and all Hoosiers a favor and actually go after the corruption in both parties.

Indiana Legislature Seeks to End Access to Public Records

If Hoosiers needed anymore proof that the Indiana State Legislature is the absolute worst in the United States. Then look no further than Tony Cook's article entitled: "Should you have to pay $20 an hour for a public records search?". Cook's article first published in the Indianapolis Star on February 17th, 2016 is in reference to the attempt by a large number of Indiana lawmakers to make access to public records even more difficult.

Cook writes:

"The cost to access public records could rise sharply under a bill the Indiana House approved Thursday.
House Bill 1523 would allow state and local governments to charge up to $20 an hour for public record searches. Those fees would apply when government officials spend more than two hours searching for a record requested by journalists or members of the public.
The House voted 62-25 in favor of the measure. It now goes to the Senate.
Lawmakers passed a similar measure in 2015, but then-Gov. Mike Pence vetoed it, saying "the cost of public records should never be a barrier to the public’s right to know."

Rep. Kathy Richardson, the Noblesville Republican who introduced the bill this year, said 27 other states and the federal government allow similar fees to address the costs of fulfilling large public information requests.
Her colleague, Rep. Karen Engleman, said that as a former Harrison County auditor, record requests could consume a lot of staff time.
“Some people come in and ask for hours and hours of research to be done,” Engleman said. “We don’t get paid anything for doing that.”

Opponents argued that citizens shouldn’t be required to pay for records created and maintained with their own tax money. They also fear the measure could allow government agencies to charge large fees for information they want to hide.
“I just think as a matter of principle these records belong to the taxpayers. Government records are the people’s records. The employees in whatever level of government are paid for by the taxpayers. They are our employees. They work for us,” said Rep. Matt Pierce, D-Bloomington. “To have to come in and pay to get access to your records I just think is not a good principle, not a good policy.”
He cited a case in Florida where a county sheriff’s office charged a newspaper $339,000 for a request seeking emails containing gay slurs. Other counties quoted as little as $37 for the same request.
“I think you’re going to open it up to where people come in that are looking for stuff the government doesn’t want them to see, they’re going to get a really high fee,” Pierce said.
State law currently allows local governments and most state agencies to charge a fee for actual copying costs, but not for the time employees spend gathering records."

As the article notes a bill just like this one did pass in 2015. But in perhaps the only good move that Mike "Pampered" Pence made while he was Governor he vetoed this insane piece of legislation. Gary Welsh and Paul Ogden have both blogged on this their articles can be found here, herehere, and here. This bill is nothing more than politicians attempting to shield themselves from being held accountable by the voters that they are supposed to be the servants of! So that you know who is looking out for you and who is only seeking to protect themselves from we the people. We have provided below the names of the legislators so far that have supported and opposed this bill. Should Hoosier Republicans Form a Third Party?

Should real Hoosier republicans form a third party? That's a question that is being asked of us a lot these days. With there being no discernible differences between the two major parties in Indiana. At least in the area of good government. It is a question that most if not all serious conservative/libertarian republicans must ask ourselves. It's certainly a tempting thought to declare the party of Bill Hudnut and Rex Early dead and buried and walk away to create a new party one dedicated to individual liberty and freedom. But for reasons we will elaborate on. We here at IR have come to believe that starting a new political party would be ultimately counterproductive. Before we get to why we are not in favor of forming a new political party in Indiana. We wanted to provide some new information about the Indiana GOP's plans to hike the states gas tax. On January 25th, 2017 the Indianapolis Business Journal ran a story entitled "GOP lawmakers draw criticism for calling tax hikes 'user fees'" the same day a bill to raise gas taxes and vehicle fees for Indiana passed through the House Roads and Transportation Committee according to a story on WISH-TV's website. With the obvious abandonment of fiscal responsibility by Governor Eric Holcomb, Rep. Ed Soliday, State House Speaker Brian Bosma, and the Marion County GOP Leaderships pushing for higher taxes, along with the gutting of the State Board of Accounts. It understandably makes us ask "Why are these people Republicans?" The only answer we can come up with is they are Republicans merely out of convenience rather than ideology. The only core conviction that Daniels, Holcomb, Bosma and McQuillen hold is they believe they are entitled to serve in public office. Recently we reported about Christine Scales decision to leave the Republican Party to become a Democrat. We here at IR cannot speak for Mrs. Scales. But in our minds we cannot help but think that if the Marion County and Indiana Republican Party had a few more people like Christine Scales and fewer apparatchiks like Mike McQuillen she might have stayed.

Alright now to why despite the temptation to do so. We here at IR would oppose Hoosier Republicans bolting the GOP and forming or joining a new political party. One of the biggest reasons is the immense difficulty inherent in attempting to win an office as an independent or third party candidate. Take a look at the case of former Republican Congressman Ron Paul who ran for President on the Libertarian Party line. He did not earn a single electoral vote when he ran in 1988. However when he returned to congress as a Republican in the mid 90's and then twice ran for the GOP presidential nomination he did much better. Congressman Paul has generated far more interest and attention for his ideas as a republican than he ever did as a libertarian. As a difficult as it is to reform a political party. It can only be done by changing the parties office holders and structure. After all why should a political party be open to any change if the activists who seek it all walk out? Lastly one issue that has not been brought up much is: Are third parties any better run than the two dominant political parties? Many a disgruntled republican in Indiana has left to join the Libertarian Party. Many have left the LP because in this state at least the Indiana Libertarian Party is just a social club that likes to play games with both parties. For an alternative political party they spend time kissing up to people like Democratic State Rep. Ed Delaney and pseudo republican and former Angie's List CEO Bill Oesterle. We feel that the State and National Republican Parties have a heritage that is to beautiful to surrender to the Daniels, Holcomb's, Oesterles, and Ballards! We believe as President Reagan did that what our state and nation needs is not a third party but a revived and vibrant second party!

Marion County GOP pushes Christine Scales away

Christine Scales

Yesterday Indianapolis City-County Councilor Christine Scales announced on Facebook that she was leaving the Republican Party to become a Democrat. We here at IR have for many years supported Christine Scales and we all will continue to do so regardless of her party switch. We previously have mentioned the inept leadership of the Marion County Republican Party under former Mayor "Boss Greg" Ballard and current fellow RINO Traitor Mike McQuillen. Although we here are all very sorry that Councilor Scales has left the Grand Old Party. We certainly can sympathize with her decision to leave. She was treated abysmally by the apparatchiks that pass themselves off as republicans when real republicans like Paul Ogden, Christine Scales and the late great Gary Welsh are treated as pariahs for holding the parties officials accountable. As for ourselves we all have been Republicans for many decades. We will agitate for reform until we leave this world. The Republican Party of Marion County and of Indiana is not and has not been worthy of laying claim to the historic conservative and libertarian principles of the GOP for many years. There have been some positive developments such as the ousting of former US Senator Dick "Carpetbagger" Lugar in 2012 and the refusal of former Mayor Greg Ballard to run for a third term in 2015. But there is still a long way to go to reclaiming the Grand Old Party in the Hoosier state. As we have pointed out the state house republicans wish to raise our state gas tax, and continue to fund projects of dubious value such as the previously mentioned bicentennial projects that were started by former Governor and now Vice President Mike Pence. Along with shielding our state legislators emails from we the people. Former Governors Mitch Daniels, Mike Pence and now current Governor Eric Holcomb have all ran on making state government more transparent but have increased the secrecy surrounding government immensely. Former Governor Pence went as far as to push to keep his emails a secret and so far Eric Holcomb has shown no willingness to rollback previous administrations secrecy. If newly elected State GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer so desires he can order a long needed overhaul of the Marion County Republican Party structure. Until the State Republican Party returns to its historic roots of limited government, opposing pay-to-play schemes, obeying the rule of law, and not blindly following ever yahoo that runs with an R after their name they will continue their deserved decline! If it must come to the point where the State GOP is reduced to rubble. So be it. All us true republicans will be there to rebuild and reclaim our parties heritage. Godspeed Christine Scales! And to all our fellow brothers and sisters in arms! In the words of the savior: "Let not your heart be troubled." John 14:1 also remember "Blessed are you who are persecuted for righteousness sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:10

Paul Ogden of Ogden on Politics fame and our colleague on the left and still the undisputed king of Indiana Democratic Bloggers Jon Easter have both written about Christine Scales Party switch. The links to their pieces are below:

Kyle Walker for Indiana GOP Chairman? Is the State Republican Party going to commit suicide?

Good evening folks. Our sources tell us here at IR that former Marion County Republican Chairman Kyle Walker is in the running to become the next State GOP Chairman. Walker's claim to fame is that he served as former Indianapolis Greg Ballard's lapdog. In addition to that Walker has helped to destroy the Republican Party in Marion County. If Walker is picked he will do serious damage to the state party. It does make sense that "Bagman" Holcomb would pick a loser such as Walker to be state chairman. Because Walker like Holcomb is a political hack devoid of any meaningful convictions. If Walker gets picked the Indiana Republican Party deserves to be thrown to the ash heap of history! As unwelcoming as the Indiana GOP is to anyone who is a real republican. Under Walker the two parties will be the same organization and true republicans will be turned into pariahs. If Walker is picked we encourage all our fellow republicans out there to refuse to lift a finger for the INGOP. If they are going to betray us and abandon Real Republicans like Christine Scales then the Indiana GOP should go down to utter defeat! In other bad news Governor-Elect Eric "Smells like Washington" Holcomb has announced he will appoint prominent welfare queen, and corporate/political whore Jim Schellinger to be Indiana's Secretary of Commerce! Why in the name of hell is Holcomb appointing a former democratic candidate for Governor to serve in his administration? This just proves that both political parties in this state are just one political party. If this is the road the Grand Old Party wants to travel down in Indiana. Then we at Indy REPUBLICAN urge all true republicans to drive the State GOP into a ditch! Enough is Enough! Let us break our chains! Set the captives free! To paraphrase that great republican William Lloyd Garrison: "We will not act with moderation! We will not issue a moderate alarm when the Hoosier state is burning down! We will not allow the continued bipartisan pillaging of our lives, liberty and treasure to go unchallenged! We will mercilessly fight every fake, low down, no good, slime ball that continues to destroy our state! We will ultimately win! Bayh and Lugar are no more! Nobody is unbeatable!" Fight the good fight brothers and sisters!

Reasons to be thankful

We know it is hard for many of you to be hopeful at times like this. For we have to look forward to Eric "Bagman" Holcomb as Governor as well as Mike Pence as the next Vice-President of the United States. But there is a lot we all as Hoosiers and Americans have to be thankful for! For one thing we are Americans! We are citizens of the greatest country in human history! We have freedoms that are unparalleled throughout history! Ironically we the people have had these freedoms so long we have started to take them for granted and we are in danger of losing them. But we have them anyway. Yes it is true that Gary Welsh the great Titan of the Indiana Blogsphere passed way to soon. But we all need to be thankful for his contributions to this state and this nation. Thanks to him and Paul Ogden Dick Lugar and Evan Bayh are no longer rotting away in the Senate! Yes Misters Donnelly and Young are no prizes but at least it has been shown in politics that no one is invincible. Paul Ogden is still blogging all of us here have joined the cause as well! Inspired by Gary Welsh and Paul Ogden to be modern day troubadours to sing the songs of good government and freedom! Others here and there along the highways and byways will join us and ultimately we will succeed in making a more perfect state and a more perfect union! We must remember that although exposing corruption is one of our primary goals. In addition we must practice positive active goodness. Our enemies the Daniels, Bayh's, Holcomb's, Delaneys, the Matt Tully's, and the Jim Shella's wish only to continue their nihilistic crusade to destroy the good for being good. Unlike them we wish to be free and enjoy life not just avoid pain. The parasites mentioned above believe that others are merely tools to be used to further their own ends. All of us deal with others by choice and voluntary association. We strive to avoid using anyone in any manner. That is why the powers that be are scared. They know themselves to be full of it! And nothing scares them as much as men and women who can think! Slowly but surely people around this state and around the country are beginning to question the elites! Christine Scales has been the target of both political parties in Indianapolis because of her stateswoman like refusal to be bullied by either former Mayor Ballard and his RINO cronies or by Mayor Hogsett and his minions. Paul Ogden is the object of both praise and hatred for his refusal to stop calling out the garbage that has to long disgraced our state! Together and individually we shall smash the media monopoly in this state! We must remind each other and ourselves that the best things in life happen outside of government. We must remind our elected officials they work for us and we own their fate they don't own us. This struggle has and will be long and complicated. It may take decades and may require both parties to fade into oblivion before we have reclaimed our state. But ultimately we will win because we will not submit. We will honor the heroes gone before us. We will continue the work that Gary Welsh began. We will succeed and cause him and all the other angels in heaven to shout with joy at what we will ultimately accomplish. We will continue to offer advice as time, experience and the Holy Spirit guide us. As David struck down Goliath and the walls of Jericho came a tumbling down. So shall the cracks continue to open and widen in the bipartisan cabal that controls so much of our state! Remember the words of Christ who said: "Let not your heart be troubled", "let none be yee called masters", and lastly our brothers and sisters as the savior also said "Do not worry about tomorrow. For each day has enough worry unto itself. By worrying can you add a minute to your life or an inch to your height." Oh we all here forget to mention word on the street is that Holcomb is already ruffling feathers and might be in for a rocky start as governor. There are many who fear him. But just as many who will undermine him everyday he is in office. He would be wise not to trust anyone.

With that we bid you all Godspeed! May the blessings of God be with you all! AMEN!

Marion County GOP trades one Democrat Stooge for Another to be their new Chairman

Yesterday the Indianapolis Star wrote an article about how a new Indianapolis Ethics ordinance has moved Marion County Democrat Republican Chairwoman Jennifer Ping to step aside from her position and make way for a new Democrat Republican Indianapolis City County Council Minority Leader Mike McQuillen to assume control of what remains of the crumbling Marion County Republican Party. Lest anyone think that the probable appointment of McQuillen to become the new Marion County GOP Chair will do anything to reverse the GOP's deservedly sagging fortunes we will refer you to the following blog post that show how the Marion County GOP is now a directly controlled subsidiary of the Marion County Democrats and also why Mike McQuillen is the worst possible choice to revive the County Party. If the leadership of the Marion County GOP had any sense they would appoint Paul Ogden or Christine Scales Party Chair yesterday! But they won't because the Party would rather lose with candidates that they can control then win anything with any candidates of merit.

Here are Gary Welsh's Post about Jennifer Ping and Mike McQuillen:
