Steve Bannon Runs Out of Covfefe and is Arrested for Fraud

Steve Bannon former Trump Chief Strategist/Future Prison Inmate

It’s been awhile since we have written on that Clown Prince of Trump Minions Steve Bannon. Although we had originally hoped never to write about Bannon ever again today’s events make us ecstatic to fire away at him again from the IR Batcave. We would argue that better people wouldn’t rejoice so much at the fall of such a washed up party hack like Steve Bannon. We are not better people, not today and not about Bannon. After all old Steve did say there was a special place in hell for Republicans like us who refused to back underage girl lover Roy Moore, he also had business dealings with sexual predator Harvey Weinstein. So given Bannon’s past sins we think we are entitled to indulge in some glee, while reporting on the news today that Bannon and three others were arrested today on charges of wire fraud and money laundering in connection with his failed “We Build the Wall Campaign”.  Justin Wise and Harper Neidig reported on the story for The Hill earlier today:

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon and three others were arrested and charged with defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors who contributed to a fundraising campaign for a private border wall, the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of New York said Thursday.

"As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction," acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said.

The four men are facing charges including one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Each charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

Bannon, who also served as chief executive of President Trump's campaign in 2016, is the latest member of the president's inner circle to face criminal charges.

Needless to say Trump’s re-election campaign is probably not thrilled with the arrest of Donald’s former campaign manager. Regardless of whatever loyalty Bannon holds or held towards President Trump. True to form President Trump has decided to act as if Bannon and he were never close. Here’s more on Trump, Bannon and the “We Build the Wall” scam:

Following the indictment, Trump said he hadn’t dealt with Bannon “for a very long period of time.”

“I don't like that project. I thought it was being done for showboating reasons,” Trump said. “It was something that I very much felt was inappropriate to be doing.”

Putting the irony aside of Donald Trump being upset over anyone else showboating, Trump’s obsession with building a fantasy border wall is well documented. Readers of this blog might recall a year ago we compared Trump’s zeal to build a border wall at the Mexican border as being the equivalent of Captain Shan’s insane quest to slay Moby Dick. So him claiming that he would view Bannon’s scheme as showboating is a bit hard to swallow. Especially in light of the fact that many of Trump’s family members and associates are involved with the “We Build the Wall” campaign:

Trump was made aware of the “We Build The Wall” campaign shortly after its launch. Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who was an advisory board member for the nonprofit established by the campaign, told The New York Times in January 2019 that the effort had received the president’s blessing.

“I talked with the president, and the We Build The Wall Effort came up,” Kobach said. “The president said ‘the project has my blessing, and you can tell the media that.’ ”

A website for the campaign still includes endorsements from the president's son Donald Trump Jr., former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and Kimberly Guilfoyle, a top fundraising official for the 2020 campaign.

So for an effort that Trump claims to have thought so little of her apparently had no problem with his son Don, Jr, one of his former campaign managers and Kris Kobach one of his chief toady’s shilling for it. Of course when you look at the charges filed against Bannon and his crew it becomes apparent why Trump would want to distance himself from Bannon.

Here’s more details on the charges against Bannon and the others:

Brian Kolfage launched We Build The Wall on GoFundMe in late 2018, quickly raising more than $20 million, before the site threatened to remove his page unless he identified a valid recipient of the funds.

According to the indictment, Kolfage, Bannon and Badolato then formed a nonprofit called "We Build The Wall, Inc." to receive the GoFundMe money.

Despite Kolfage's promises that he wouldn't be taking a salary, federal prosecutors alleged that the group of defendants schemed to pass along hundreds of thousands of dollars to him to help "fund his lavish lifestyle."

Kolfage allegedly took a total of $350,000 from the organization, passed through a series of bank accounts and nonprofits between January and October of 2019.

Prosecutors said one nonprofit controlled by Bannon received more than $1 million, some of which he passed on to Kolfage, while taking a "substantial portion" for personal gain.

Now none of us at INDY REPUBLICAN are attorney’s like our late great teacher and friend Gary Welsh or our friend and ally Paul Ogden. But based off what we can see it is not likely that Bannon and his three associates would have been arrested if the Justice Department didn’t think they had a good case against them. Things are look bad for Bannon & Trump. Knowing Bannon he will do ANYTHING to avoid prison even roll over on Donald. We have a few things to say to Steve Bannon: Steve, we really hate you. You are REAL HUMAN SCUM, but that being said if you have any brain cells at all you will turn on Donald now! He is already ditching you like one of the three rumpled jackets you always wear. Save yourself while you can. And by the way regarding their being a special place in Hell for us Never Trump Republicans, we are okay with that. At least we won’t be stuck in boring, generic, run-of-the-mill Hell! See you when you come up for parole Steve!

Martha McSally Crushes Alt-Right Kooks Kelli Ward & Joe Arpaio

Representative Martha McSally R-AZ

The news of Congresswoman and Air Force Colonel Martha McSally’s decisive win in tonight’s GOP Senate Primary in Arizona is a much needed shot in the arm to us at IR. Try as they might the histrionics of Kelli Ward and former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio were no match for the calm, cool, and classy demeanor of Colonel McSally. Kelli Ward in a classic display of narcissism that rivals that of her master the orange Buffon Trump. Had stated that shortly after Senator McCain’s family announced last Friday that he was discontinuing cancer treatment said she thought that was being done only to hurt her campaign. To make matters worse Kelli Ward whom IR also calls “bitch” said just the day after Senator McCain’s passing that “political correctness is like cancer”. We long ago thought that Ward had no chance in hell of winning the Primary. But her denigrating a dead man who also kicked her ass two years ago in his bid for renomination was a bridge to far for most Arizona Republicans to cross.

Martha McSally

Also Ward’s close ties to former Harvey Weinstein’s one time business partner Steve Bannon and INDY REPUBLICAN’S old bete noire Neo-Nazi Paul Nehlen whom Ward endorsed for congress in 2016  Alone disqualified Ward from serving in any office.
Here’s an old tweet by Ward endorsing Nehlen in 2016:

We have written about Bannon’s sleazy dealings with Weinstein here  We also crossed swords with Paul Nehlen awhile back in which we suggested that Nehlen take a flying leap off of a cliff. Unfortunately Nehlen has yet to take our suggestion. Nehlen grew so toxic that even Steve Bannon and Breitbart News cut him lose which we also covered

Here is our message we sent to Paul Nehlen on Twitter right before Twitter banned his fool ass:

As for Sheriff Joe Arpaio fellow blogger and friend of the IR Posse Paul Ogden has detailed Arpaio’s shortcomings here. Also Arpaio’s rather bizarre interview in which he suggested that he would be open to engaging in oral sex with Donald Trump just added to Arpaio’s perceived creepiness, but also led some to speculate on whether that had anything to do with Arpaio’s having been pardoned by President Trump late last year. Arpaio’s unusual pardon reminds us of former Governor Mitch Daniels questionable pardon of Indianapolis Union thug Boss Steven Quick several years ago reported by Gary Welsh

Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Well at least now the GOP has a fighting chance to hold the Senate seat in Arizona. If Ward or Arpaio had won the race would be over. Here are some sampling’s of reactions to McSally’s win tonight:

Breitbart News Washes it’s hands of Neo-Nazi Paul Nehlen with Update

Steve Bannon has apparently found a candidate too repulsive for even him and his Breitbart minions to support. This afternoon word came out that Bannon and Breitbart have dumped the racist clown Paul Nehlen. Earlier this month we reported on how Nehlen told conservative New York Post writer Jon Podhoretz to eat a bullet. We of course suggested to Nehlen that he jump off a tall bridge for being such a moron. Back to today’s story on the now finished bromance between Nehlen and Bannon.

Brett Samuels of The Hill reports:

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon and his conservative outlet, Breitbart News, have cut ties with a far-right activist challenging Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in 2018 after the candidate posted several controversial tweets

“Nehlen is dead to us,” Arthur Schwartz, a Bannon adviser, told CNN on Wednesday regarding Wisconsin congressional candidate Paul Nehlen (R).

“We don’t support him,” Breitbart editor Joel Pollak tweeted late Tuesday. “He’s disqualified himself.”

Samuels mentions one of the tasteless tweets in question that probably got Nehlen booted from Breitbart:

Nehlen on Saturday tweeted an illustration showing three Christian crosses with signs reading "No it's not," "It's okay to be white" and "No it's not." The cross in the middle of the image was meant to represent Jesus Christ.

What is a mystery to us is why it took so long for Bannon and Company to figure out that Nehlen is a complete psycho. It’s not like he has been shy about his insanity. INDY REPUBLICAN is glad to hear that Bannon and Breitbart have dumped Nehlen. We however remain skeptical this will be the last embarrassing candidate that Bannon backs and then has to throw under the bus.

IR is not the only conservative to have reservations about Nehlen and Bannon. Here is a twitter exchange by a friend of the blog pointing out how problematic Nehlen, Roy Moore and Bannon are:

UPDATE: Ben Shapiro over at DailyWire.com has an excellent take here on the whole Bannon/Nehlen fiasco. Shapiro used to work at Breitbart News under Steve Bannon so his insights into Bannon and Breitbart are worth a read.

Steve Bannon sends Indy Republican to Hell

IR had hoped never to not ever again blog about Steve Bannon or Roy Moore. But they are such easy targets it’s hard not to fire away at them. According to a report by The Hill’s Olivia Beavers written last night. Breitbart  News CEO and Bomb thrower Steve Bannon believes there is a special place in Hell for republicans who don’t support Roy Moore.

Olivia Beavers writes:

Stephen Bannon on Monday called out GOP leaders who have failed to support Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, telling a crowd at a rally for the special election candiate that there is "special place in hell for Republicans who should know better."

Bannon is campaigning for Moore in a heated race that has captured the national spotlight after a handful of women came forward last month and accused the candidate of making unwanted sexual advances when they were underaged teenagers and he was in his 30's.

Breitbart's executive chairman's remarks appeared to make a dig at Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, who said there is a "special place in hell for people who pray on children" after the allegations surfaced.

It’s interesting that Bannon feels so comfortable acting all high and mighty and claiming to be just one of the folks. He never seems to mention his own past as a Goldman Sachs executive, or his time as a Hollywood producer. He certainly seems content not to mention his past dealings with Harvey Weinstein. And his and Harv’s 2005 deal to distribute “TransAmerica”. Readers of this blog will remember back in October when we reported on that little deal of Bannon’s

Steve Bannon, Harvey Weinstein and “TransAmerica”

Bannon is certainly living up to being a self-described Lenninst. Like Lenin he seeks to replace religious faith in God with faith in people who share his own warped view of the world.

As far as being sent to a special place in Hell. INDY REPUBLICAN says: “Sounds great Steve! We don’t want to be sent to simply boring generic Hell!”

The savior Jesus Christ sums up our views of Steve Bannon and Roy Moore quite well here:

Matthew 7:15King James Version (KJV)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Steve and Roy in case you missed the point yes we are calling you both false prophets.

Is Steve Bannon breaking up with Roy Moore? w/Update

We have just received word that Steve Bannon the head of Breitbart News maybe about to withdraw his support of Roy Moore’s Alabama Senate Candidacy.
The Daily Beast published a column late this afternoon called “Steve Bannon and Allies have second thoughts about Roy Moore”.

LACHLAN MARKAY and ASAWIN SUEBSAENG at The Daily Beast reported the following
Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon is keeping the door open to ditching Roy Moore as the sexual-assault allegations against the Alabama Republican Senate candidate continue to pile up.
Publicly, the Trump confidant and Breitbart chairman has stood behind Moore, who is now accused of attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl. Bannon has also railed against what he and his allies dub “fake news” and the GOP establishment for trying to push Moore out of the race.
But over the past few days, Bannon has begun privately taking the temperature of those in his inner circle to see what they think of the Moore allegations and to get their sense of how to proceed, according to four knowledgeable sources. Late last week, the Breitbart chairman said, “I will put him in a grave myself,” if he determines that Moore was lying to him about the numerous accusations, a source close to Bannon relayed.
Bannon emphasized, to both friends and colleagues, that he’s uncomfortable with the charges of sexual harassment and child molestation that have been levelled at Moore. But he wasn’t convinced that the initial flood of on-record testimony, starting with the first Washington Post story last week, was anything more than a hit job. And he believes it may have been planted by #NeverTrump operatives to put the screws to Moore’s campaign.
Several of Bannon’s most trusted allies have already told him that it would be “insane,” as one put it, to believe at this point that the Moore accusations are baseless. They have also warned that the time is rapidly approaching when he would have to disavow Moore before it appeared as though he was simply caving to political pressure. (Critics of Bannon, of course, argue he should never have backed Moore in the first place.)
Additionally on Tuesday, the front page of Breitbart featured a prominently placed headline that read, “POTUS TO REVISIT ROY MOORE SUPPORT AFTER RETURNING TO U.S." from his Asia trip—roughly the same position Bannon now finds himself in.

Since Breitbart ran on their front page today a headline that says President Trump will be “revisiting” his support of Roy Moore. Given Bannon and Breitbart’s strong ties to the President this lends serious credence to the idea that Bannon is seriously reconsidering his support of Roy Moore. If we were the Moore campaign we would be especially concerned about just how dedicated the President and Bannon are to getting him elected.
One other item of interest that caught our eye. Last week as the first of the sex assault allegations was made public. The Hill reported that Roy Moore was declining to debate his Democratic Senate opponent Doug Jones because of Jones’s stance on “transgender issues”.
Moore stated "We’ve (Roy Moore) refused to debate them (Doug Jones) because of their very liberal stance on transgenderism and transgenderism in the military and in bathrooms. They are desperate.”
Interesting that Moore would specifically cite Jones’s stance on transgenderism as the reason he wouldn’t debate Jones. Especially since as we reported last month that Steve Bannon made millions by helping to distribute sexual predator Harvey Weinstein’s 2005 Pro Transgender Propaganda film “TransAmerica”.
Maybe Moore was afraid Jones would question accepting backing from Pro-Transgender Steve Bannon. Or perhaps a big nothingburger as some like to say.
UPDATE: It appears this story was just a big nothingburger. Bannon appears for the time being to be sticking with Roy Moore.

Steve Bannon peddled Harvey Weinstein Pro-Transgender Propaganda in 2005

Steve Bannon (left) helps Harvey Weinstein (right) distribute "Transamerica"

Former White House Chief Strategist and Breitbart News Chief Steve Bannon declared war on Anti-Trump Republicans at yesterdays Value Voters Summit. One thing that Indy Republican is sure of is that Bannon did not tell the Value Voters Summit about how he profited back in 2005 by distributing Harvey Weinstein's film "Transamerica". Nikki Schwab of the British Daily Mail reported the story last Thursday October 12th, 2017.

Ms. Schwab writes:

As part of Steve Bannon's distribution deal with accused sexual abuser Harvey Weinstein, the former White House chief strategist's video company profited from a title that was groundbreaking for the transgender community.
Twelve years before it was considered a 'win' for Bannon when his boss, President Trump, banned transgender people from serving in the military, Bannon inked a deal with the Weinstein Company to distribute the film, Transamerica, starring Felicity Huffman.

The 2005 film – heralded by IndieWire as 'the finest U.S. film honoring what it means to transition as an adult' – was part of a video and DVD distribution deal between the Weinstein Co., led by Harvey and his brother Bob, and Genius Products, which was chaired by Bannon.

The deal was first reported by the Associated Press.
'Genius Products anticipates that the new venture will release to DVD a slate of approximately 20 theatrical films and a significant number of direct-to-video and library titles per year from [the Weinstein Co.],' a press release touting the 2005 deal said.
It goes on to mention Transamerica as one of the titles.
A 2006 review of the Transamerica DVD confirms that Genius Products ended up being the film's video distributor.

In the press release, Bannon is personally quoted.
'The management team has worked successfully over the past year to transform the company into a significant player in the home entertainment business,' he said, of the Genius Products team. 'Our relationship with The Weinstein Company – many months in the making – validates both our strategy and our team,' Bannon added.
Bannon spoke more personally about the Weinstein brothers in investor calls, unearthed by the Associated Press.
'Bob and Harvey are two of the most prolific studio heads in the history of Hollywood,' Bannon said.
In 2005, Harvey and Bob Weinstein sold their Miramax studio to Disney and launched the Weinstein Company.
It diversified quickly, with the brothers becoming 70 percent owners in Genius that same year.
Labeled their 'worst purchase' by Forbes, Genius went bankrupt in 2011.
Bannon, however, walked away with sizable profits from the venture, the AP found.
Bannon Strategic Advisers, the former White House chief strategist's company, made $500,000 from a consulting agreement with Genius Products in 2006.
Bannon was also awarded bonuses for more than $200,000, SEC filings showed, according to the AP.
In 2005, the ex-White House aide was also awarded stock options valued at more than $1 million at the time.
Bannon's deal with Weinstein alone opens him up to charges of hypocrisy, as his website Breitbart News has had a field day over the producer's lurid downfall, as sexual assault and harassment accusations pile up.

INDY REPUBLICAN also would like to point out that in addition to the hypocrisy involved in having done business with Harvey Weinstein. Bannon has opened up another can of worms by having profited and unashamedly so off of a film that would appear to go against much of what Bannon would say is President Trump's agenda.

Josh Delk of The Hill.com quoted Bannon as having said yesterday that:

Stephen Bannon on Saturday declared a "season of war" against Republican lawmakers, promising to help elect replacements for any Senate Republican who opposes President Trump.

Bannon told Fox News's Sean Hannity earlier this week that he was declaring "war" on the GOP establishment, saying he would support candidates looking to unseat Republicans who oppose Trump's agenda.

So Steve Bannon is faced with a problem. If he is as he claims looking to go after Republicans who do not support President Trump's agenda. It would be reasonable to infer that Bannon personally supports President Trump and his legislative/ideological goals. Then either a.) President Trump opposes the ideas as promoted in "Transamerica" in which case Bannon is guilty himself of having worked to undermine the "Trump Agenda" for cold hard cash, or b.) Bannon is saying by his actions that "Transamerica" does not go against Trump's ideology. And in that case Bannon has not done anything to undercut Trump by doing business with Weinstein on a film that is transgender friendly. The former scenario if true damages Bannon's credibility as an advocate for President Trump. While the later cast both Trump and Bannon in a bad light regarding their seemingly apparent opposition to the transgender movement. Specifically regarding a ban on transgender servicemen in the military supported by both President Trump and Steve Bannon.

One of the above assumptions maybe true. But logically one of them must be false. One possible way Bannon could try to resolve his quagmire is to publicly repent of his involvement with Weinstein, and then to either donate all the money he has made from his past dealings with Weinstein to charity. Or spend it on candidates and causes that he supports. IR is going on the record as saying we do not believe that Bannon has to give away the money he made with Weinstein, or that he even should. Our problem is that Bannon needs to acknowledge his past with Weinstein. If he refuses then he can and will be justly accused of being hypocritical. IR cannot predict the future but we are not going to hold our breath that Bannon is going to deal with this issue anytime soon. He most likely will not give back what money he has made with Weinstein.
