Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dies at 87

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

We were all sorry to hear that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has just passed away at age 87. Politico’s David Cohen and Josh Gerstein have some more details:

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an accomplished advocate against gender discrimination who became one of the most revered justices in U.S. Supreme Court history, has died of complications related to pancreatic cancer. She was 87.

Only the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, Ginsburg wrote some of the Supreme Court’s most notable opinions on gender discrimination, including the majority opinion in United States v. Virginia, a 1996 case which opened the Virginia Military Institute to women.

Although Justice Ginsburg and us often had sharp political and legal differences, we always respected there dedication to the bench. What is especially upsetting to all of us is that her death has already started a political uproar over who should replace her during an already tumultuous political atmosphere. Let’s do what we can to keep an even keel. RIP Justice Ginsburg.
