Did Mike Pence engage in Nepotism to give his Nephew a Cushy Political Job?

On Friday February 23rd, 2018 CNBC's Christina Wilkie reported that the Republican National Committee (RNC) had since September 2017 been paying tens of thousands of dollars in rent for office space in Trump Towers in New York. In addition several thousand dollars has been being paid to John Pence the nephew  of Vice President and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence. The money from the RNC is being used to pay for office space for use for President Trump's reelection campaign. Of which John Pence is the campaign's deputy executive director. 

Christian Willkie reports:

Campaign finance experts who spoke to CNBC said this type of spending by a party committee on behalf of a campaign is highly unusual but legal, and it appears the RNC disclosed it correctly.

"This is permissible and it's being reported properly, but why they are doing it is a mystery," said Brendan Fischer, senior counsel for the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center. "One would think the RNC could be spending their money more effectively right now on the 2018 campaign, rather than spending it to pay Trump's rent."

So far, the party has spent more than $290,000 to cover the Trump campaign's expenses since September, the first month it paid the Trump Tower rent or Pence's salary. Before then, both expenses had been paid directly by the Trump campaign.

John Pence had begun receiving a paycheck from the RNC on Sept. 15, 2017.

Pence's salary was $12,000 a month at the Trump campaign, and the RNC appears to be paying him the same or nearly the same amount, judging from the state and federal payroll taxes withheld.

Ms. Wilkie's article does go onto to question the wisdom of the RNC spending so much money on the next presidential race in 2020 rather than devoting resources to this years midterm races. We recommend that everyone out in cyberspace reads her article here. But our concern is mostly on why is John Pence so valuable to be paid a $12,000 a month salary? The only reason he seems to have been hired is because he is related to Milquetoast Mike Pence.

John Pence graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2011. Attended Indiana University School of Law graduated in 2015. Worked as an extern at the U.S. Justice Department on Criminal and Civil Matters. Worked as an associate at Ice Miller in Indiana from 2015 to 2016. 

At only 28 years of age John Pence is a tad young and inexperienced to be given such a high level position on a presidential campaign.

We did find one other item of interest regarding John Pence. In a Washington Post article from February 7th, 2018 Emily Heil did report that John Pence is currently dating Giovanna Coia who is a cousin of Kellyanne Conway a senior advisor and spokesman spokeswoman for President Donald Trump. 

Ms. Coia might actually be a good match for John Pence seeing as they are both trading on their family connections to enhance their own standing. Not only does the swamp need to be drained in Washington, D.C. It looks like the political classes gene pools could use a filter.

Fox’s Steve Hilton Explains why State Government Corruption is such a threat

Yesterday Steve Hilton the host of Fox News’s “The Revolution” gave a monologue on why we need to drain the swamp at the state level. We found this video to be very well done and informative. IR used to love much of the Fox News Channels programming. But have grown fed up with its transformation into a propaganda arm for Donald Trump. We still like Shepherd Smith, Brit Hume, Brett Baier, Chris Wallace and Juan Williams. But they are now minority voices at FNC. Seeing Hilton’s monologue gives us hope.

Mike Crider Drops Bid for Luke Messers Congress Seat

State Senator Mike Crider has announced that he will end his campaign to fill Luke Messer’s U.S. House seat. Mister Crider had this to say about his decision to exit the race:

Friends,

After extensive discussions with my campaign team and my family, I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for the United States Congress in Indiana’s sixth district. Unfortunately, congressional campaigns are very expensive endeavors and due to that we have determined that we do not and likely will not have the ability to spread our message as widely as will be required to achieve victory in May. While disappointed the campaign has come to an end, I am at peace with this decision and know that we all worked hard to put together a winning strategy.

The only negative to this whole adventure is that I find myself a bit jaded as I realize that this scenario is likely playing out in races all across the country. People who would be quality candidates simply cannot participate because they cannot afford to self finance campaigns and the political establishment locks down the remaining financial support. I hope that whomever is successful in this contest is serious about having the responsibilities of the position and not just having the position. There is much work to be done.

As for me, I remain committed to serving as State Senator in District 28 and trying to make a difference wherever and whenever I can. The trust that the people I represent have placed in me remains the honor of my lifetime. Sherri and I will always be grateful for the kindness and encouragement many of you continually extend. May God continue to bless the great state of Indiana and these United States.”

We had previously blogged on Crider’s initial entry into the race back in August here. 

If the following comment left on that post is any indication as to the kind of man Senator Crider is then his leaving the race is not a bad thing:

“campaign Chairwoman is former State Senator Beverly Gard, also of Greenfield, whom he replaced in the Senate after her retirement in 2012.” That told me all I need to know about Mr. Crider and that he should be kicked to the curb and thoroughly rejected by the voters and every and any time he runs for office.

Anyone with half a brain recalls just what an establishment Hoosier GOP tool Ms. Gard has been throughout her political career. Gard is a long-term, long-time Republican political hack who apparently never found any distaste against political schemes that enriched the corrupt estabishment Republican attorneys who run the Hoosier “R” Party and the corrupt career Republican office holders who knew how to butter the bread of the connected and when to do it.

Establishment Hoosier “R’s” are truly The Stupid Party whose only apparent goals are to enrich themselves and their crony pals at the expense of everyday Indiana citizens. Beverly Gard’s boy Crider for political office? Nah, no way, no thanks.

With Crider’s exit there are three other candidates running in the GOP Primary to succeed Luke Messer. They are Greg Pence brother to Vice President Mike Pence of whose possible run for office we have discussed previously. Stephen McKenzie a veteran and Jonathan Lamb a businessman from Muncie. In the interest of full disclosure IR would like to point out our sympathies in this race lie with Mr. McKenzie. But to the other candidates we shall of course act with complete fairness.

It is a nonstop source of both frustration and sorrow that too many of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Fall for the lie that Vice President Mike Pence is a fellow Christian. To the best of IR's knowledge he only adopts the pose of being Christian as he does being a conservative to further his own ends! As Charlie White is fond of pointing out: "Pence is a medical miracle he is the only man to be born with literally no spine!" But slowly but surely other genuine believers, republicans, conservatives, what have you have begun to discern just how much of Mike Pence's image is a fraud.
Today over at Redstate Susan Wright has made the case against Mike Pence better than we could hope to do. So we are quoting from her article "VP Pence Weaves a Tale of Trump the Believer":

Lying is a sin.

In the wake of news that Trump is rolling on another campaign promise (moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem), comes news of a Vice President Mike Pence interview, aimed at [American] Christians.

This was another one of those stomach-churning propaganda interviews, meant to check the mortar holding Trump’s evangelical base in place.

“Let me be clear: President Trump is a believer and so am I,” Pence told Christian Broadcast Networking correspondent David Brody in an interview excerpt published Sunday.

“And we understand the role of faith in the life of this nation and the American people I think can be encouraged to know that in President Donald Trump, they have a leader who embraces and respects and appreciates the role of faith and the importance of religion in the lives of our families, in communities in our nation and he always will,” he continued.

Titus 1:16 AMP – “They profess to know God [to recognize and be acquainted with Him], but by their actions they deny and disown Him. They are detestable and disobedient and worthless for good work of any kind.”

I believe Mike Pence has lived the life of an actual believer, but like so many who try to blend faith and politics, he has had to compromise, and compromise is the death of faith.

You don’t call someone a brother who actively and often works to disgrace the reputation of the Body of Christ.

I don’t mean somebody who stumbles. I mean somebody who has built his reputation on being hateful, adulterous, and abusive, and who routinely flaunts arrogance, attacking anyone who doesn’t cater to his whims, showing absolutely no grace or self-control.

I’m talking about someone who works in profanity and disrespect for others. This is not the fruit of a believer, and Mike Pence should know this.

He should know it, but it appears he’s willing to finesse his words and work around the details of reality, in order to continue on with the fantasy of Trump as a godly man.

The VP further spoke of Trump’s thankfulness towards the [American] Christians who, when faced with the choice of standing firm in their faith, remembering God’s Word on corrupt leadership, or putting their faith on hold, declaring we weren’t electing a pastor, and putting the world first, did the worldly thing and crowned Trump their new king.

“I think he’s always very humbled and grateful by the support of believers,” he said, adding that Trump “has a heart of gratitude for evangelical Christians in this country.”

Yes. I’m sure he does.

Pence also pointed out that if somebody wants to pray around Trump, he doesn’t immediately burst into flames, so that’s a plus.

“I’ve been with this president in the Oval Office with religious leaders when people have asked to pause for a moment of prayer, and the president readily embraces that,” he said.

Trump boasted during the presidential election that “the evangelicals love me.”

Absolutely, because the [American] church now sees pulling our faith down to be equal with politics is better than demanding politics be raised up to a standard that meets our faith.

I have to wonder if Mike Pence actually has a conscience that can feel shame for his part in all of this?

The answer Ms. Wright is "no" Mike Pence has no conscience, nor does he ever feel shame. As much as we like Susan Wright and this piece she has written is good. Unlike Wright IR does not believe that Old Mikey has ever at anytime in his life really lived as a believer. We have chronicled here and here and many other posts to numerous to mention, Mike Pence's shortcomings as a man.

Good evening boys and girls! Well as always we are impressed by the quality of our readership. One of the most talented, most interesting and most extraordinary people in the universe has told us of a news item we all thought would be of interest to all of you.

John Frank writing today for the Denver Post has a story about just how badly Colorado Republicans want to pay to hear Vice President Mike Pence ramble endlessly speak.

John Frank writes:

Because of a lack of demand, the Colorado Republican Party is offering a Groupon-like deal to see Vice President Mike Pence.
Pence is the headliner for a party fundraiser Oct. 26 at the Denver Marriott Tech Center, where the lowest-priced tickets originally cost $275.
The party announced the event weeks earlier but struggled to sell the tickets available. So now it’s lowering the cheapest ticket to $150, a 45 percent discount. A couple can attend with a two-for-one deal at the original $275 price.

Colorado Republican Party Chairman Jeff Hays tried to put his best spin on the news, writing in an email Wednesday: “Due to popular demand, we have made more tickets available at a new lower price.” But the same invite later says space is limited.
Daniel Cole, the party’s spokesman, clarified: “We are hearing from a lot of people that they very much want to see the vice president but the tickets were too expensive.”
He added: “We couldn’t fill the large room at that ticket level.”
The party initially indicated it planned to sell 800 tickets but later said the expected attendance is 400, a goal it expects to meet. The room holds 900 for typical banquet events, according to the hotel.
Cole declined to release the number of tickets sold to date, adding that he never expected the event to sell out because of the size of the room. And he disputed the idea that ticket sales were a reflection on the Trump administration.
The move to add cheaper tickets creates another tier of seating. The original $275 ticket is now reserved seating “in the best locations,” Cole said. The new, lower price is open seating. Both tickets include dinner.

“All Republicans want to see the vice president, and many Republicans can’t afford the $275 ticket,” he said, citing grumbling online from party activists since the fundraiser was announced.

"All Republicans want to see the vice president?" Do you seriously expect us to believe that Mr. Cole? All of us here at Indy Republican as well as many republicans we know throughout the nation can think of almost nothing less we would like than to see the Vice President! A longtime reader of this blog has said to us that "Mike Pence is political mental pornography". By the tone of their voice we assume they are comparing Pence to being on par with late 1990's era scrambled porn. Perhaps midget porn. We are not that sure yet. Pence is continuing to bleed support. All we can say is we hope that the Colorado GOP has something better than Mike Pence available to pump life into it. Otherwise they should just get used to being in minority status in Colorado for the foreseeable future.

Word to the wise for Mike Pence:

Mister Vice President. We here at IR maybe just little nobodies to you and the Washington blue bloods you hang out with. But for once in your miserable life, use your brain. Listen very carefully to what we are about to tell you, Each day you stay in the national spotlight is one day closer you get to political extinction. You have never run for president yourself, as Governor you allowed yourself to be bullied by Mitch Daniels and his gang, and since you have become Vice President you have made one blunder after another. You are obviously in over your head. Resign as Vice President and get the hell out of D.C. before it destroys you.

IR believes in the redemptive power of prayer. But we are not going to lose sleep waiting to see if Vice President Pence decides to be smart and leave political life.

Saturday Night Live Skit Spanks Mike Pence for being a submissive to the establishment

A great friend of the blog told IR of last nights Saturday Night Live skit calling out Mike Pence for being a submissive little bitch to the powers that be in Washington, D.C. Last week we blogged here and here about Mike Pence's grandstanding and disrespecting of the national anthem of the United States at last Sunday's Colt's Game in Indianapolis. The White House has since used Pence's childish stunt in a fundraising email. Click here for that story.

The national anthem issue was kicked up another notch last week when, on President Donald Trump’s orders, Vice President Mike Pence walked out of the stadium in response to players kneeling.
And now, in its first show since the pre-planned stunt, SNL is poking fun at the whole thing. In the skit, Trump orders Pence to first walk out of a Pacers game for players not respecting the anthem, then a Starbucks for the company not using “Christmas” cups, then a gay wedding. In light of the revelation that former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon's having promoted pro-transgender propaganda. It would be a real knee slapper if the gay wedding in the skit turned out to be Bannon's. IR does not believe Bannon is gay. But in light of what we know about the man. We wouldn't put it past him to be hiding something.

On Sunday we reported on Mike Pence's publicity stunt in which he ran away like an angry child at the Colt's game, and how he posted a three year old picture of himself and his wife to Twitter showing them at a Colt's game. Not to mention Pence's going to attend a fundraiser for RINO Congressman and Putin Stooge Dana Rohrabacher on Monday. Well IR was hoping we could get through this weekend without having to witness anymore stupidity out of Vice President Pence. But as is his won’t good old Mikey just had to show us all just how much of a political hack he is. INDY REPUBLICAN has many times over the past year and a half of this blogs existence chronicled the train wreck that is Mike Pence. Everything from his whoring himself out at a fundraiser for his master President Trump, photographic proof that he is losing his soul, his attempts to act like “I know nothing” Sergeant Schultz, 

to his dishonesty about his residency when he ran for governor. We have covered it all. At today's Colts game facing off against the 49ers, Vice President Pence decided to up and leave the game.

Vice President Mike Pence left the Indianapolis Colts game before it started on Sunday, making a show out of leaving when players from the visiting team knelt for the national anthem. President Donald Trump later tweeted that he had asked Pence to leave the game if anyone knelt.

Vice President Pence being the sniveling toady he is submitted to his master Donald Trump by running away like a whiny little girl leaving the game. Not content enough to simply leave. The VP decided to take to Twitter and express his outrage at the San Francisco 49er's kneeling during the national anthem. Probably because Pence was afraid that President Trump would question his manhood if he did not.

Last week IR friend and fellow blogger Paul Ogden of Ogden on Politics fame summed up INDY REPUBLICANS feelings perfectly both regarding the "protesters" kneeling during the national anthem and the bone headed reaction of our Commander-in-Chief to these classless fools:

I (Paul Ogden) find the players actions at best misguided and at worst deplorable. The protest is supposed to be about raising the issue of racism.  But the protest does not do that at all.  Instead the protesting players are slapping the face of all those who have fought and died so that we can have the freedoms we Americans enjoy, including the freedom those players have to earn millions of dollars playing a game one day a week.  Those players might have as well gone up and spit on the flag and what it represents.   But it is exactly because of what that flag stands for that we should respect and allow the protests to continue.  The flag stands for the freedom to express one's views, especially those that are political, i.e are about a matter of public concern. Now I am well aware that the Free Speech Clause does not apply to private businesses, such as the NFL.  And, yes, the team owners can almost certainly legally fire the players for their objectionable speech.  But just because the action would be legal, does not mean it is right.  Free speech is not just part of a constitutional amendment.  It is an essential characteristic of American society and a bedrock principle of our political system.  If people are constantly threatened with their jobs if they dare express their views publicly then robust political debate is silenced and we all suffer as a result. Sadly, we have a President who has long declared open hostility to the American tradition of free speech.   Candidate Trump attacked American free speech during the campaign., even suggesting that the requirement of "actual malice" for libel actions be done away with.  Trump warmly praised dictators who violently put down public protests and kill journalists who write negative stories about those dictators. He is the first President since John Adams who has argued that Americans actually have too much free speech.   Even before entering the world of politics, Trump was well-known for suing (or threatening to sue) anyone who had the temerity to speak ill of him publicly. Unfortunately, too many of my Republican friends have tossed aside their conservative principles to back the President's over-the-top assertion that these NFL players should be fired by their employers. In doing so, they are eschewing Constitutional principles and embracing the liberal tactics of suppressing unpopular free speech, i.e. speech liberals do not like  If those tactics are wrong for liberals, they are also wrong when done by conservatives.   The answer to unpopular speech is not to silence that speech, but to counter it with other speech.  By all means let's roundly condemn those players who insult the grand principles for which our great country stands. But, as one of those principles is the right to speak out on matters of public concern, let's stop short of demanding that speech be silenced by firing the speakers.   For conservatives to do otherwise makes them no better than the liberals.

INDY REPUBLICAN just like Paul Ogden feels that these "protesters" are showing extreme disrespect to the national anthem of this the greatest country in the history of man. Nevertheless standing up for these United States and the Anthem demands that we should allow the protest to continue. We conservatives, libertarians, and republicans should counter the protesters with speech of our own defending the U.S. of A. We must not attempt to trample the free speech rights of anyone. Nor should we turn tail and yell "UNCLE" like the spineless jellyfish of a Vice President Mike Pence did earlier today.

IR would like to ask Mike Pence this question: "Why not stay during the game and show that you were not intimidated by the cowardly kneeling during the anthem?" Instead by leaving you gave the (accurate) impression that you are terrified of any sign of dissent weather real or imagined.

Mr. Kristol is referring to California Republican  Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. The Vice President is scheduled to be at a fundraiser for Rohrabacher tomorrow. This despite the fact that many political observers have expressed concerns about Rohrabacher's overly friendly views towards Russian tyrant and former KGB Agent Vladimir Putin. If being around a bunch of pampered, self-indulgent, whiners who show disrespect to the national anthem is too much for the Vice President. Then how can he justify fundraising for a congressman whose own patriotism has been rightfully questioned?

Kristol also had this to offer bit of advice for Mike Pence to consider:

It's a fair point Mr. Vice President. If the VP or any supporters of his feel an need to respond. We will happily post there responses. We are not going to hold our breath.

UPDATE: WRTV reporter Katie Cox reports that the photo of Mike and Karen Pence in Colts attire was actually a photo taken back in 2014. It is apparent when you compare the photograph of the Second Couple standing for the anthem in which the Vice President is wearing a business suit and Mrs. Pence is wearing a Colts Jersey No# 18. And in the other picture both Pences are wearing Colts apparel and Mrs. Pence is wearing a Colts No# 50 Jersey. Click here for the full story.
